My Car is Beeping HELP!

I have a Mazda 1987 GXL 2nd gen. When i drive it around it all of sudden starts to beep. There are five short beeps then it stops for a sec then starts up again. It ramdomly turns off some times but then starts back up. I have no idea what it is. But i know its origanating from the steering collum. The power steering fluid is ok. and the steering wheel is put on properly. We have checked everything it could possible be and it is still beeping. Does any one know what it is?

Here you go..
"5-beeps, pause, repeat - in case abnormality of steering sensor signal: Steering sensor is mis-aligned or failed or steering wheel has been improperly installed.

Did you recently remove the steering wheel or install an aftermarket steering wheel?  This is the biggest culprit for those 5 beeps...

I wanted to install a new steering wheel. So i removed the old one and tried to put the new one on, but it didn't fit because of the teeth of the drive shaft. So i put the old steering wheel back on. Then the car started to beep. So I took the steering wheel back offand noticed that the turning angle sensor wasn't alligned so then i realligned it in hopes that the beeping went away. After driving the car for a little while it started to beep again. I don't know what i did wrong everything is alligned and in place the only thing i can think of is that the sensor is busted.

You didn't put your old steering wheel on correctly and damaged or knocked out of alignment the position sensor
