my 7 smokes

ok so i was trying to make sure my timing was right. i connected the timing light and adjusted according to the haynes manuel that i bought. as most of you know when checking the timing you have to check both primary and seconday wires.

thats when i stumble across the fact that the coil pack for the oil ignights were sparking but it wasnt sending it through the wires. i know it cant be the wires for two reasons.

1. there new wires
2. if i pushed them in onto the coil pack they sparked

why wont the wires stay connected fully

I can answer about why it wont pick up but allot of timing lights have a hard timing picking up different types or wires on a 7. For instance there is only once spot on my L wires that I can pick up a signal and I can get a signal everywhere on my leading wires "I have 2 different wires". Another user is unable to grab a signal from his aftermarket wires. I am sure someone on here can come up with an answer but I think it is the lights being used.

Wasn’t this thread about smoking???

Weird...

Can you really confirmed it was sparking, or you just mention it cause the timing gun started to fire?

Typically, I pull the boot off the spark plugs to get the timing gun to fire.
The longer gap seems to cause the coil to fire a stronger signal so that the timing gun can trigger consistently.
