My 450 dollar intercooler setup
For all those who said it was impossible, or to the newbs who will one day ask. Here is an intercooler setup that isn't junkyard or ghetto, at a reasonable price. All it took was some shopping around, and a little getupoffyerbuttndoit.
Here's a brief rundown:
Intercooler - bar and plate style 26x12x2.5-140 shipped (ebay, waited long time for this deal to come around)
polished aluminum piping-115 shipped (ebay)
reinforced silicone couplers -5 for 35 shipped (ebay)
tb elbow-100 (thanks Higgi)
tig welding-60 (local guy)
that about sums it up give or take a dollar or two.
Other tools that were needed that I either already had or borrowed were:
3" Hole saw
air die grinder/compressor
jigsaw
dremmel
It took alot of patience, trial and error, and the better part of a weekend to get it going. This is my first time ever doing this, and although it may not be as good as a GReddy kit, i'll damned if it doesnt do it's job well. After a night of hard driving, the TB side of the piping was luke warm. The next steps to make it even better are to get an aftermarket bumper to draw more air in, and maybe tilt the intercooler toward the ground to help force more air in. My water temps were virtually unaffected with this setup, but I have a koyo rad, and a brand new cooling system (was put in with new engine about 2500 miles ago). I hope this helps someone in the future.
Also, please excuse the camaro looking front bumper, I used to have the cp racing headlights, but one of them broke, so I had to put the stock pop ups back in. Dont worry it will be gone soon.
