Multimeter TPS Adjustment Writeup
Multimeter TPS Adjustment Writeup
I have searched the forum and there does not appear to be a writeup on setting the TPS via a multimeter. I've seen conflicting posts as to whether to set the TPS by measuring Ohms and Volts. Which is it? Is there a writeup somewhere for this? There was one on fc3s-pro... but apparently it is now down? Also I have heard conflicting advice as to whether the TPS should be unplugged or not. I believe the correct information is to use Ohms: 1K to 4K-6K. TPS unplugged. Can anyone confirm or refute this information?
I set it today using a method that HAILERS said was the best way. It involved using volts dc and jamming the positive probe into the hole with the green wire on the connector, the negative on a good ground (I used a bolt on the shock tower) and adjusting it until it read one volt, + or - .05. Then you're supposed to take it for a spirited drive (found out it likes V6 mustangs }:->) and check it again. If it's not within the range specified above, set it again and go for another drive. If it still isn't set right you need a new TPS (mine does
). On a good note, my check engine light doesn't come on anymore, and it definitaly pulls harder.

warm up the car, fully warm, the tps should read 1.0 at throttle closed, and 5 at WOT, although with S4s single piston TPS, it reads 5 when the secondary plates start to open, which is normal. it should be an even sweep. once you get that set, hit the throttle a few times, take it for a short drive around the block, check the TPS readings again. if they still read 1.0, its set, if not, readjust to 1.0.

Are you setting the TPS awhile the Car Is on or just when the Ignition Is on? Ofcourse, after warm up.
I did the former and want to know If their Is one superior method over another.

If you unplugged it, you wouldn't get a signal back from the TPS to check.
S5's need to check the full range sensor (most forward).
S4's...well there's only one!
There are going to be 3 wires for each sensor.
1. Ground
2. 5v power
3. Signal
The signal is what you'll want to find. It'll change as you move the sensor by hand (or by pulling on the throttle cable).
