modification ideas?

I have a 91 NA which is mostly stock. The only power mods are an after market intake, headers, no cats, and apexi n1 style mufflers. The car is running excellent, and I would like to modify it a bit more, but I don't know where to start. I'm curious what inexpensive engine mods I can do without compromising reliability.

get a ecu upgrade from rtek at digitaltuning.com, upgrade injectors and fuel pump, upgrade spark plug cables to like 8mm or higher. those are cheap and effective mods.

The ECU upgrade you are talking about ONLY removes the MOP routines from the ECU.. Does nothing else in the version its in right now. So, he'd have to remove his MOP or switch to an S4 mechanical one if he got that. I'd wait on that.

And Fuel pump/Injectors might be a bit hasty as well for a non-ported engine.

Why would you get more fuel flow on a car that already runs rich?

my engine has less than 10,000 miles on it, so I'm not going to be porting anything anytime soon.

I'm not much of a gear head, and I don't think it would be a good idea to try anything that requires tuning. I guess there's not much I can do.

I'd like to remove the power steering and ac. Someday, i'd like to replace my intake with a better looking and shorter one (mine is squeezed down behind the headlight - see pic), and replace my exhaust with racing beat true duals.

My engine bay needs a good cleaning, too. (my TB and alternator are brown ) It was like this when I bought it, not my fault. I know a guy who can detail engine bays very very well, and he's going to help me clean mine soon.

What about this:
http://www.rx7.com/store/rx7/fcignition.html
(the FC1000)

Is that worth it by itself, or is it only useful on highly modded cars?
i know it won't add any power, but is it a good reliability mod?

yeah they are double bladed and i think their weight may be why i only have one wiper speed (too much for the motors to handle, i think). I don't drive it in heavy rain anyway (except the day I bought it, driving down the highway my first day in an unfamiliar car, my first rwd and manual car, with broken wipers in possibly the heaviest rain i've ever driven in - not fun.)

Your wiper switch probably needs to be rebuilt... I had those on my first RX-7 and they worked fine at any speed.

EDIT: Oh.. and I took the wiper off my car because it looked like ***.. FYI.

I se two things you can do. #1 is to build up a cold air box to seal out the hot engine air. #2 is to get a fan shroud so that your 7 does't overheat.

i don't like how they look either, but they were on the car when I bought it.

#1 is to build up a cold air box to seal out the hot engine air.
do I need the stock air intake scoop thing (which I don't have) for that to work?

#2 is to get a fan shroud so that your 7 does't overheat.
I have a fan shroud, but i don't have the clip things to put it back on.

also, my coolant sensor is not connected to anything and I don't know what it's supposed to connect to. My coolant light never comes on, and my engine never gets too hot, so i haven't really worried about it.

ok i see a few things you could do to improve performance.
1st, remove your powersteering pump, ac compresser, ac condenser and lines.
2nd make a cold airbox to seal out that nasty hot engine air.
3rd, get a shroud on that fan...its not doing much the way it is now. and also the stock plastic air intake duct thing is a good idea to route it to your future cold air box

No...but you should get some cooler air in there somehow.

Unless he's running a large (big streetport or bigger) port, he won't need bigger injectors or fuel pump.

thanks for the replies everyone!
I'll try to rig up a cai box when i find that write-up, wherever it was.
How do i correctly remove the ac stuff? Are there any write-ups or anything?
I already have detailed instructions on removing the ps.

this is sort of off topic, but I guess i can do that in my own thread:
I can't find the connector for my o2 sensor. i think it may have been cut for some reason. This causes the check engine light to come on under normal driving, especially just cruising. Could i still hook up an electronic a/f gauge (like prosport)? I couldn't do anything to change the ratio, but it would be nice to know if i'm running lean or rich.
