Ok,
Was surfing some forums for other Japanese cars and came across an interesting FAQ:
Statement was made that if you replace your Torque Converter with a smaller one, your launch's will improve just from that.
Anyone with any experience on this subject? If so, what are the pro's and con's for such a modification. And, what would be a good source for such a smaller Torque Converter?
This could be interesting and perhaps a fair alternative to converting to a 5 speed.
Icemark, you out there?

and those cars probably have aftermarket torque converters they can buy to put in....
I don't know much about autos. but I doubt you could find another one that would fit in yours.

If you want to make an automatic street car launch harder, put a manual in it. I know that's probably not what you want to hear, but mods to autos almost always make them much less streetable. The hi-stall converter mentioned above is a good example. I can't imagine it would be a pain in the *** to use in normal driving.

ones modded with the street in mind are quite fine actually. You do have to be "aware" of it though...
Basically you can feather it, loosly like riding the clutch i guess is the best way to discribe it, or floor it and the revs instantly go to wards the stall speed.

ive driven a few now and when modded correctly ther are as drivable under the stall speed as the std ones.. which in a FC are at 2000-2200 anyway! 3500 isent that high for a modded turbo rotor when you really think of it. my mate (jasRX on ausrotary) has 3k stally in his car and it just seams a tad too low, but is a great improvement over the std one.
Having said all that if you have two good hands and legs get a manual for sure!!! if you have a wrecked wrist like me, make the most of what got!!

SC400
Funny you should mention that. It was on a Lexus forum for SC300/400 that this was discussed. Was surfing it as I just got a SC400 for my daughter.
If interested, here is a link to their forum.

Yeah it comes up every now and then. If I was driving the car more it would be a priority, but since my wife drives it 90% of the time... well you know a 0-60 in 7 seconds is just fine for her.
