Question mobil 1 oil filter? 10w30 oil in summer?

maybe i should have asked before i bought it, but does anyone have any experience with the mobile 1 filter? It is bigger than the fram filter that's on the car now. I think it's supposed to hold more oil than stock.

also, is 10w30 (fyi, it's castrol gtx) ok for summer? it's humid and about 70-90 degrees farenheit here. I bought a case to do an oil change this weekend, should I return it and buy a heavier weight, like 20w50 or will the 10w30 be fine?

Mobil one filters are quite good, much better then the fram crap thats on there. 10-30 should be fine too.

10W30 is fine for starting in temps under 85F... if you are starting and running above 85F you are probably better off using a 20W50 or a 15W40

If it's that hot you should use 20W50 to be safe.

Some lucas oil stabilizer wouldn't hurt either.

Yeah it makes the oil quite a bit thicker. I use it every other oil change.

Sometimes I just put in 15W40 when I use it.

something wrong with the quality of your oil, that you need to use snake oil every other oil change?

There's nothing wrong with the quality of my oil & gear oil I just add a climbing additive. Is there a problem with that? Say what you want.

Cheers!

depending on the oil brand, the shear film may be too thin to protect the engine from wear, because the oil is too runny

I ran mobil 1 filter with castrol gtx 10w-30 for 2 summers in the FD with no problems. It does get thin and you'll notice it upon startups after short shutdowns. You'll see it on your oil pressure gauge if you have one.

Im running a mobil 1 filter with RP 10w-30 in my DD now with no problems as well.

If you track your car or do alot of driving in the summer with long trips, go 20w-50 to be safe. If you're driving short trips a couple of times during the day, 10w-30 should be fine.
