mmmmm.... coolant :P

got the shifter bushings in yesterday... it helped a LOT... the shifter isn't 100% because it doesen't have the lower bushings.... but it's good enough....

took it for a spin yesterday and was shown a really nice road. got it up to about 110 and didn't want to go any higher cuz it was shaking too bad...

got back and my friend who was following me said I had probably just blown the engine or something.. cuz coolant went everywhere (especialy on my car he was using to chase with)....

as he said something, the coolant light finaly came on... pulled it into the garrage and popped the hood... the coolant hose going to the heater core (on the driver's side) had loostened itself and I believe has cracked...

I'm going to try to pick up a new hose for it today if not fix this one... that car IS fun though (and he said it was def. pulling on my del Sol)

That's normal. Oil will drop down onto that hose from the filter base, and degrade the hose over time. Replace, refill, and you're good to go. However, you will be cursing a great deal trying to get at that hose. Maybe easier to just cut the hose off, you don't want to reuse it anyway.

yeah... I'm a big fan of cutting hoses off if they are getting replaced...

is the replacement a hard one to find? my friend said it might be since it's a molded hose.... do I have to find an OEM replacement or can I just use a slightly longer generic hose (to keep kinks out)?

just a note, be carful getting the hose off where it enters the heater core on drivers side, cut this off, do not use any sort of plyers to pull the hose off because you risk crushing the inlet hose going to the heater core, then guess what, you get to replace the heater core and that will take a lot more work.

heh, the exact same thing happened to me a while ago, the hose split at the engine, looks like from the clamp, just wore into the hose and cut it, quick fix, trim a bit off the end of the hose and plug it back in, IT WILL BREAK AGAIN! promise, I lasted about a week with this, best thing to do is take your hose to a parts store (discount auto or napa, something like that) and try to find a hose that is similar, a longer hose won't really work, as it will kink, just because of the tight bends, so either get an rx7 heater hose, or find one that is similar, (I used one that I tested to be able to stick the openings in the same place without kinking, just needed some love) and use a razor or something to pull the hose off, because if it is like mine was, it will be almost impossible to get the hose off otherwise, a little cut, and you are ready to go.

Yeah, I didn't know how soft the metal was on the heater core. I was just a twisting with my pipe wrench. Didn't crack the inlet or outlet. I just made them NON round

Hoses didn't seal right either. Had to smear a little RTV on the inlet metal to get it to seal. It sealed Good ol RTV.
