mj vs. the flooding grinch
Good forum, first post. Owned '88 since 9-03. 77K n/a. After a few repairs and minor intake and exhaust mods have enjoyed a fine time with her. Until it flooded. Have read all the good stuff about how to remedy it and have patiently repeated the "complex unflood procedure" about six times . (getting real quick with those spark plugs now).. It tries
to start but won't. After just a couple of seconds of cranking I smell gas then the plugs are soaked. I did get my compression back but there seems to be too much fuel. I don't suspect any bad components since there was no fault until I unknowingly shut it off with a cold engine. I'm an old stubborn mech from the hotrod Lincoln era and don't give up easy but this puppy has me wrangled.

Do a seach on this there must be a couple hundred posts on this issue. If your handy, just do the fuel pump toggle switch fix to shut off the pump - this will save your plugs. You may have to go through the complex procedure 1st though. Any easy option if it's a manual is a roll start (I got sick of pushing and got and installed the switch). Note this is the easier of the fixes, you could have other issues such as leaky injectors etc.

Two two main causes of flooding are low compression and/or leaky injectors. Have the compression tested, and if it's okay remove the injectors and have them professionally cleaned. If it's not, start saving for a rebuild, because it's not going to get any better.
