Misfire problem with NA

i'm having a real hard time since im basically new to rotary. basically, im having problems with the n/a fc misfiring occasionally. but when this occurs, the power of the car stalls out and is hard to start back up. basically if theres any power left in the battery, id have to mess with the gas while turning the ignition. i took it to a few shops, and they said it the problem should be internally, but they would mess with the motors since its rotary. anyone have any ideas?

The problem of it not starting up again would make me believe it could be the flooding issue.

This will help you out a lot.

If its high milage I'd say you've got leaky injectors that are providing you with more fuel than you need...thats what the backfire means. Unburned fuel is igniting somewhere in the exhaust system. Or it could also be your running too rich from an aftermarket fuel pump or a pump thats providing more pressure than you need if its not stock.

That is far more then a "misfire".

It sounds like you may have the very rare sticky injector. If the injector sticks open for a while, the engine will flood horribly and stall out.

This is very rare and hard to diagnose without experience. But suffice it to say that if the car is high mileage and the injectors have never been serviced, have them professionally cleaned.

Also check the battery connections and main grounds. The battery connections should be good and tight, and not the temporary "clamp to the cable" lugs. Grounding is covered at http://www.aaroncake.net/rx-7/grounding.htm

There are many other causes for a problem like this. Big vacuum leaks will cause stalling but won't be intermittant. Your fuel pump could be failing (unusual...) or you could have some other electrical fault.

I think this now serves a good enough reason for a TurboII swap.

If the car is running richer then it should, the oil will stink of fuel. This is where you should start troubleshooting.
