if the miata trani isnt strong enough to hold up to my engine. at 200 hp. and if it breaks. then i have a rebuilt s4 n/a trani

a friend is nice enough to give me his old one since he already tried selling it but failed for the past year. every one rather have tii

so if the miata trani goes bad. then i have a back up.

thus i am not worried if it doesnt work. i dont see y it wouldnt. so i willl be giving it a shot.
if i dont like it then i'll sell it

I know that you can get a rebuild kit for the TII tranny from Ray Crow for $400.00 thats what i had to do becouse my TII tranny with 168k on it didnt want to go into first without sneaking up on it first....ewwww. any way. i know the gearing is diffrent, there are many tranny swaps that will work. you could allso have the tranny out of any late model b-series truck. some older mustang trannys will work for us turbo people. it just takes some looking around to find the info, i will have to find what info i have on the diffrent swaps. good luck to you though!!! and more power to you for doing something diffrent. definatly heep us posted!!

to clear things up, the miata gears ARE shorter the ratios for a 94-97 5-speed are 12.86:1 7.74:1 5.45:1 4.10:1 3.34:1. the box i put into my car was out of a 96 click here to get the full story.
the first gear in the miatabox is taller, and the rest of the gears are shorter, making it an excelent box for road racing. doing this swap is not a "girl thing" as someone mentioned earlier, its actually extreamly common in road racing(SCCA E Production, for example)i just carried it over and decided to try it on the street. i found it to be extreamly benificial for what i am doing with the car(street and road race style track use)
these trannies can handle the power that EP RX-7's are putting out. thats ALOT more than a stock NA FC is putting out. the miatabox can handle a ported, built motor at sustained high rpm. there is nothing "girly about this swap"
if anyone wants to see the swap in action, come out to buttonwillow this weekend. ill be running sat and sun, and it would be cool to see some rotary people

There are plenty of miata's on the stock tranny with well over 200hp to the wheels. My dad's 92 is turboed with 220hp to the wheels and the transmission is just fine.

Hey, I might need to do my tranny also (wow that was wierd)... so yeah, a miata gearbox might be the thing for me since I love driving on the mountain roads.

Still a work in progress!

Damn I'm poor.

I think older miata trans has a problem with getting stuck in reverse. Try checking out this website for a permit fix for the problem. www.miata.net/garage/stuckreverse.html

Good luck with the swap let us know what happen.
