melted 02 sensor

melted 02 sensor
Has anyone ever had a melted 02 sensor? I have a RB header and full exhuast system. Changed the clutch yesterday, and when we tried to remove the o2 sensor, it looked like it had melted into the bung. With the removal tool, it snapped at the bung, then had to drill it out and retap, but nothing to bad. Just wondering if anybody else had ever had this problem before.

It probably seized because the last person who installed the sensor did not use anti-seize compound. The heat cycling and moisture exposure will quickly seize exhaust parts not made out of stainless.

bosch 02 sensor, universal one wire, used anti sieze when I put it in about 2 years before when I installed the sensor. Also I already replaced it, but just thought it was strange that it melted into the o2 bung. Itlooked like it melted because the treads were not there, completly formed into the bung. But we drilled out the old one, and reatapped and put in a new one.

thats what we thought too, that it had siezed or crosstreaded, when it would not back out. But when we got the chunks out, it looked like it had heat cycled so much that the sensor treads were melting into the bung. I should have taken pics, but didnt think about it. It wasnt to much of a problem, I was wondering if anybody else had something like that.

my o2 sensor isn't even hooked up. It doesn't even throw a check engine light on my s5 GTU. We never use them on our race cars. It does give the ECU a code, when I read the codes, but it won't give a check engine light.......I feel as if I'm repeating myself. My buddy's o2 wire broke on him about a year ago and never changed anything and it's still just hanging. Not saying that this is neccessarily good for it, but it hasn't hurt either of ours. I would like to have a wideband though.

Gulled is when a male sea gull humps a sparrow and does her. That is being Gulled. It's described in Wikipedia somewhere. Or maybe it was on the How Stuff Works site. One or the other.
