Exclamation Mazdatrix short shifter

Does anyone install the Mazdatrix short shifter? How does it feel? Does it make noise? They said it will make rattle sound. The odds are about 1 out of 3 ANY short shifter in YOUR car might rattle. Where can i get the short shifter beside Mazdatrix and Mazdaspeed and C's?

I have it. It is very smooth and requires little extra effort to engage gears; just a tad "notchier"/more precise. Mine made no noises :-)

Do you like it? Does it make different when you shifting? Do you think it is worth it?

The install is easy, and it feels nice. The throw length is VERY short. Mine sometimes rattles, but when it does it rattles a lot "mostly on excelaration". The ones Mazdatrix sells they make themselves so it is the cheepest one you will find. Overall I like it a lot.

I love it. Before I had shortened the throw by making a **** w/ the threads deep inside so it was short- which worked, but the shifter was farther from the steering wheel. Now it is closer to the wheel again and I still don't feel like I am "rowing" my car like a rowboat when downshifting before a corner like w/ the stock long throw.

I would love to get one. I hope my car is not the "1" out of the three cars to rattle though. I hope if you get the shifter, you like it.

My friend has a short throw shifter in his 95 rx7, he got his from pettit. He wrapped electrical tape around it and the rattle stopped.

How loud is the rattle? I have a 3" turbo back coming from a To4B...So the noise is a bit high. but how loud is the rattle? If it's minor i probably won't notice it.

The rattle is usually caused by the upper or lower plastic bushings around the ball at the base of the shifter (not the very bottom... the big one it pivots around on) vibrating because the flat springs have broken. Just replace the flat springs and possibly the bushings and it should be fine.

I'm really jonesin' for a short throw shifter, but I was also wondering if anyone out there has used the 'shortened shifter' mod of simply cutting out a few inches of the stock shifter and welding the top back on...? Does it feel OK afterwards? What else is included with the Mazdatrix short shifter kit?

A/.

Dont you think if you cut the stock shifter that the E-brake might get in the way....

just a thought

At times, its loud enough to really **** you off. I have no carpet or interior and a hole in my exhaust and at times its still too loud to ignore.

I have a stock "shortened" shifter. I don't know if it was cut or what, it was like that when I bought it.

Anyway, the height and throw is perfect, wouldn't ever want anything else in an FC. Every time I see a picture of an FC with a stock shifter I cringe, there's no way I'd want to drive one with a shifter so damn tall.
