This may be a stupid question....
I'm not all that mechanically inclined(which is almost required to own an RX-7). On my last tank of gas, my mpg drastically fell. I'm guessing this is the fuel filter or the gas itslef(I'm never going to Texaco again). Please help me out. BTW, how would i go about changing it. Any recommendations on what kind to get....K&N....or an OEM Mazda fuel filter?

I changed mine with the one they had at the local parts store, I think a Purelator or sumin. Its underneath the car on the drivers side, kinda like towards the front of the drivers door. Its black & is pretty easy to change, just losen the tiny hose clamps and take it off, might want to get some new clamps as well though.

on the drivers side speaker tower theres a connection for the fuel pump. Disconnect it. Turn the car on and let it run till it dies. This uses up most of the gas thats in the lines so you dont get sprayed when taking off a hose. The filter is by the drivers side door underneath the car (cant really miss it). When I changed mines, I took off the two screws that hold it in place (theres one on top of the filter and one below it). It comes off pretty easy. While I was at it, I also changed two of the fuel hoses. The one that goes from the filter to the engine and the one that goes to the filter from the metal fuel line. After replacing everything connect the fuel pump connector back in and start the car. Check for leaks. The last thing you want is a flaming car.
Hope this helps. Sorry it was so long.
