Exclamation Massive Hesitation, Tach Bouncing!!

Well my rebuilt engine is driving as strong as ever, although just today its been acting up. When ever I push on the throttle more than like 25% and it hits 3-4k my car bucks like a bronco, and the tach bounces with the hesistations! I am aware that it's prolly my trailing coil or a connection on or around it thats acting up....also I guess it could be a ground wire, not sure though. Any suggestions on where to look for loose connections or anything, as soon as I get home I will check the coil with my multimeter but I'm at school right now so....

Does it idle properly? If it doesn't idle right you have an intake leak...

But now I read that its under load right?....hmmmmm, let me think... fuel filter or fuel pump maybe? Your not using water are you?

Let us know

Brad

3-4K? That seems to be a standard problem with a bad engine ground connection. At ~3800 RPM (when the second ports start to open) the secondary fuel injectors come online and the additional load causes the electrical system to go wierd and that causes hesitation there. Do a search on "3800 RPM hesitation" or something like that....

Could also be a solenoid problem, dirty/clogged fuel injectors, bad plug wires, stuff like that. But I'd personally check those ground wires first, and do that search. You'll find a lot of info on that.

He has a TII, but anyways. Checking grounds might not be such a bad idea.

That sounds like fuel cut. I see that you have a FCD. Maybe its malfunctioning?

Yeah checking grounds is what I thought too..but would that cause the tach to bounce up and down, I mean the rpms are staying relitivly the same but the gauge jumps from like 1500 to 3500 in like seconds!!! gonna check the ingiter see if thats the problem...I wonder if Ted has any suggestions he is usally around when some one say his name

hmm... my car does that too. If I'm cruising in whatever gear and I suddenly floor the gas pedal, the car bucks for a second and then the power kicks in and the car is normal. The tach bounces occasionally when it does this. Almost feels like something is loose. I grounded my engine using 8 gauge wire running to the battery. How do I check the trailing coils??

check the FSM at www.fc3s.org, I think I figuered out the major hesitation, the power wire coming from my main fuse box was grounding out where it was exposed...though it didn't fix everything, havn't checked yet cause I'm in alot of pain right now...

A loose injector connector canl cause MAJOR malfunctions. My friends TII would rev very slowly fine, but any throttle over 25% would cause major hesitation and backfiring on the way up. His injector plugs were screwed it turns out.

I was going to mention it, but it didnt really match the tach problem. Is your ECU ground in good order as well?
