Mass Air Flow sensor help

Hey im making my own cold air intake so i was taking apart my stock air box assembly and i took out my mass air flow sensor and it had some wires hanging out so i pulled them off and i took it inside and i realized i didnt see which one connected to what, if anyone with a second gen rx7 could take those 2 screws out from the side and pull it out about an inch and take a pic of the wires conencted to the wire harness i would greatly apreciate it, it would save me hours of trial and error.

I'd love to help, but I have an S5 (and yours is an 87, making it an S4). Unfortunately, they have different MAF's. The 86-88 (S4's) have a trap door type MAF. The 89-91 (S5's) have the straight through ones. Just be patient, someone will help as long as you bump the thread.

Did the wires for the AFM pull out of the AFM connector? Im pretty sure when you take out the air box thats the only connector that would have to be disconnected.
Take some pics if you can.

Guess they didnt work.....

Youre ok if you just leave the AFM hooked up and you unbolt if from the Air box.

But I dont really understand what youre saying. If you cant get the pics to work just explain it again. Im confused.

Let me get this straight- there's a clip attached to the external plug on the AFM to kkep it from vibrating off, and you didn't know this, so you couldn't get the plug off, so you unscrewed the connector retaining screws and pulled on the whole mess, yanking the INTERNAL wiring out of the plug???

Hmm, those wire colors are not going to be in the schematics, so someone with an open AFM is going to have to help you...Sorry...

BTW, a lot of plugs on our cars have these clips on them...

ok ill try to go into detail if u give me your email i can send you the pics, but the meter sits right behind the box right, theres a port on the side where the wiring harness plugs into it, there are 2 screws that hold it in, i unscrewed them and pulled it out and there are 3 wires that have little clips that go onto the wiring harness. so i pulled them off carefully and i just dont know what one goes to the wiring harness

Errrrr..... Sounds like you got a little too rough with it. That connector is really easy to get off of there. You probably screwed up your MAF. That sux.

you can probably get another maf real cheap in the for sale section. All those standalone people don't need them anymore.

S4 is 1986-1988. S5 is 1989-1991. S4 turbo has 180 HP stock. S5 turbo has 200 HP stock.
