I've had 3 Fcs , the first an SE , manual of course, totalled it , 2nd was a Gxl with power windows but the doors were banged up so I swapped the doors from the SE and turned it manual , blew the motor on it, now with my S5 vert with p/windows , had so many problems ,switches gone . Change the driver switch and the driver regulator went , replaced it and got a short on the wiring going to the pass side switch, fix that and the pass regulator cable broke and at the same time braking the plastic that holds the cables on top of regulator. My point is love the power window but for the lenght of 6+ years that I had my first two fcs , never had a window problem.

My car, being the base model, did not come with power windows.

I installed the regulators from a GXL and then did my own wiring. The switches are installed in the center console just below the radio and just pull power from a constant 12V fused source (aux fuse panel).
+1 for resourcefulness

On both mine and my fathers verts I've been able to take the door panels off and regrease the channels. Anytime they started getting sluggish, I regreased the channels and it's seemed to have saved the motors and cables from too much strain.

Have you ever actually heard of someone having bad wiring on FC electric windows? The wiring is very rarely ever a problem.

This is correct. The weights have been posted before but I can't remember whet they were. It was only a few pounds difference, but they are lighter.

Aside from the switches, there is nothing really to see. The power regulators install in place of the manual ones without any modifications and connect up to the wiring already in the door. I then just tapped the wiring where it came through the body grommit under the dash and redirected to the center console.

Here are the switches shown with my old S-AFC setup. The black middle toggle are for the windows.

I prefer manual, less maintenance and not have to worry about motor burning out as it has done on 3 of my wife's van windows. What a pain! Besides who wants to change the power windows all the time when I can be working on the important stuff like the engine!

I don't know if anyone has said this yet, but power windows are actually lighter than the manual ones due to the extra metal on the manual regulators.

As for me, I'm kinda indifferent, but I do still like the fact that you can operate manual windows without the key "on". The main thing I don't like with manual windows is that you have to reach over to roll the pass window up or down, which is a pain when it suddenly starts raining and you are driving.

Those manual levers always poke me in the knee when I'm driving. I've had to take my power window switches apart and clean them. No that difficult, but still a pain, but worth it for the comfort.

Oh, and I feel like a rock star.
