Manual because in case of deranged diseased monkeys loose on the freeways, manuals go up faster.

Wow nearly dead even on this matter...
What about BOTH systems?
You can have a crank AND a button for windows? Useless inventions always work!

manual. I am a smoker so the drivers side switch on my current power window setup has gone out twice since 2003. Seriously contemplating a power to manual conversion, at least on the drivers side.

Thats funny Shaolin, I also drive a 2000 saturn, and have the rx7 as a secondary...never really had any problems with the SL though. Its nice to have something opposite the rx7, the saturns a complete inconspicuous-mobile, invisible actually.

Manual equipment is only on these cars because they were for the people who couldn't afford the GXL, decked out with fancy power options and better suspension and better brakes.

End of story.

That makes no sense.(IDK?) My BFF Brett has an '87.5 Luxury with manual doors. There is a seriously hanus weight difference. It *almost* makes me jealous... But then I realize that at the end of the day, my power windows are just another option that make my car just a little bit better than his.....

As are my suspension...wheel hubs...spoiler...tires...motor...transmission...br akes...steering...electrics...A/C...paint...etc...

He's got a nice car, but it's not a GXL and that's just that. What's amazing is the near 250k that car of his has gone on the original engine and transmission.... My next oil change is scheduled 600 miles from 180k. I sure hope my GXL lasts as long as his old banger.

My old banger? Collin Collin Collin, will you ever understand that my car's not on the original transmission...? And my AC should work with a new belt, and my electronics in my car kick yours' ***...

Anyways, manual get my vote. They're more reliable than power, dont need the ignition on to move, dont have high expense of new switches, and are far lighter. Yes, power windows are barely easier to let down and a tad more convenient, but I still like the manual ones... Personal preferance I guess.

That is the original transmission, Brett. Your uncle taking it apart and actually forgetting to put a few things back in upon reassembly is not a rebuild. It simply isn't. A rebuild includes all new wear parts, of which your transmission doesn't have.

They're not that slow...I've had three FCs with power windows. They're not much slower than the new Toyotas I work on every day.

I've always preferred manual, but now that I'm getting a little older, the power window's ease of operation is nice. It obviously depends on the application however.

Power. I have my own switches located in the center console which are powered from a constant 12V source. They operate whether the car is on or off, and are easily reached from the shifter.

Any chance you would post pics of that setup Aaron? Also any additional information on how you performed the switch.

Toyota's you *detail* everyday

Power Windows FTW. Aaron, that sounds like a good idea like you've done. Would that innovation happen to be on your site?

I didn't think that always-powered windows were such a big deal.

My car, being the base model, did not come with power windows.

I installed the regulators from a GXL and then did my own wiring. The switches are installed in the center console just below the radio and just pull power from a constant 12V fused source (aux fuse panel).
