Manual Steering to Power steering Help

Hey guys, im a little stumped here and looking for help, ive already tried searching the forums and can only seem to find Power steering to manual rack conversions info, but im looking for info on Manual to power steering conversions. Does the steering column from a s4 fc rx7 manual rack work with a P/S rack?

Im wondering if the shop sent me the wrong rack, because neither brackets fit, or the piece that installs to the column. Do fc Power steering racks not fit Manual rack fc’s??

Honestly? The reason why you did not find anything because by the time you go through the effort, it wouldn't be worth the time and expense.

Just enjoy the car and have fun!

I had a few minutes and was curious as what exactly the problem with your new rack is. It looks like Mazda did indeed change something on the P/S rack during the 1987 model FC.

I used Cardone part numbers as a reference for both prices and fitment. However, f you want a different brand you can still use these part numbers to cross reference with other manufacturers. If that doesn't work, you can always cross reference back to the Mazda part # and start from there.

If neither of the below referenced racks work then there may indeed be something different about the splines in the steering column or possibly rack mounting points. However, I'm pretty confident it's just the wrong part. Please cross reference the part number on your New/Remanned unit and compare it to those below (You will also need your VIN number). If you can't figure out how to cross reference the number if the one you have isn't manufactured by Cardone just post up the Part number and PM me so I can help you out. Did to much work for it to be for nothing. lol

So: here's all the info I dug up for S4 FC power steering rack and pinions.

All 1986 FCs take Cardone part # 26-2008 ($290.42 shipped)

Any 1987 FC with Serial # 550168 or below (read the VIN# ...) takes Cardone part # 26-2008 ($290.42 shipped)

Any 1987 FC with Serial # 550169 or above (read the VIN # ...) takes Cardone part # 26-1943 ($187.52 shipped)

All 1988 FCs take Cardone part # 26-1943 ($187.52 shipped)

ALSO:
I stumbled across this thread a little while ago. It may not be a full write up but should point you in the right direction on your path. From the post below it looks like you're going to need to source a rack, pump, reservoir, lines, pulley, belt, bracket, tensioner bolt, and a few random hoses, fittings, and banjo bolts,

The specific post is Post #50 found in this thread:

Hope something in there helps you out bud. Welcome to the forums.
