That is what is involved in swapping on the s5 UIM. To operate the VDI, you can use the method described there, or you can get a small air pump and activate it with a RPM switch.
If you feel you can do that, then use the s5 intake, if not, keep the s4. The other option is to use the full s5 intake, but then you would need another air pump and RPM switch to activate the aux ports.

Well, this would be a seperate air pump from the stock air pump. I'm talking about a small pump kinda like what they use for the lumbar air bags in some older Fords, etc. I guess you could theoretically use a solenoid actuated by an rpm switch similar to the stock s5 system, but damn it would be a lot of work.
Oh, if you are going to keep the stock emissions system, I think you will need to use the s4 intake since the s4 vac/emmissions rack doesn't line up with the s5 intake manifold.
