from what i understand the ATF is much better to use than the marvel mystery oil when trying to clean the engine. i remember Kurgan saying he tried the MMO on his T2...but wasn't as happy with the results...

MMO is an excellent detergent. It does a better job of cleaning carbon and stuff than ATF does. I have soaked a carbon covered rotor in ATF, and the other one from that engine, in the same condition, in MMO. The one in ATF still needed the carbon scraped off, even after 2 weeks of sitting there. It did dissolve a good bit of the carbon, but not nearly as good as MMO. The rotor what was in MMO for almost 2 weeks came out very clean. There were only a few tough spots that needed more attention.

BTW, MMO works great for its original purpose too. Put some in your engine oil. It does a great job of cleaning out your engine. A word of warning though, it will make your oil really dirty very quickly if you have an old or dirty engine. I put some in my recently rebuilt engine with 10K miles, and I was suprised at the results. It immediately made my engine much smoother and rev quicker. Also, my oil has been getting much dirtier than usual, and much quicker too.

Both have advantages/disadvantages:
MMO-
You can put it in your engine oil and gas tank, which you really cant' do with ATF. It also burns cleaner so I've heard.
ATF-
The same thing as MMO but less $$$. Probably more effective with the 24 hour soak than MMO is. ATF can damage your 02 sensor.

is this safe to use in the same manner as the atf treatment, as in putting it in the lower spark plug holes?

I have no idea which is better, but I'm about Mama's Mystery Oil.

I think that belongs in a completely different thread. Maybe the thong thread in the lounge!
