Make own side exhaust port motor?

Ok, when the RX-8 starts going on the market, would it be possible to make your own side exhaust port motor using the Renesis parts? Use 13B rotor housings and block off the factory exhaust holes and use the RX-8 side-housings? Of course switching to RX-8 exhaust manifold or header. Does anybody know if this is possible? Or am I just dreaming?

better find out how they solved the oil-gunking problem. i read the reason it took so long for them to switch to side exhaust ports was because of oiling issues. something about it gunking up. the renesis engine is quite different, but mey be very much the same. i'd like to see more pictures and, better yet, handle the parts. trial and error.

Why is that? It is basically the same engine with most of the same parts. Everybody is always bowwing down to the Renesis Im just trying to find a way to make a similar engine cheaper.

I mean if you dont think it will work, explain why. Im sure other members are curious aswell.

For one the water jackets wouldn't line up. Here's a pic of the engine though it's not that great, but you can get an idea.

How can you tell? im looking at another picture I have of the Renesis and comparing it to a spare rotor housing I have and they appear to be identical, well with exception to the exhaust port.

Hmmm, for some reason I thought I remembered them looking different, but I also pulled a housing out and compared and I guess they are the same. Sorry. It'd be nice just to put the two side by side, but that won't happen for awhile. From your pic, can you tell if the bolt pattern is the same?

Ya they both have the same number of dowel pins and they all seem to be in the same location. Pic is on my website at teamfc3s.org

Thanks, I was thinking of the pic with the black background when I thought they were different. We'll have to wait until someone tears down the Renesis to see for sure. Anythings possible with $$$ though.

You know if it all fits together I am going to bolt up pre Renisis rotor housings up to Renisis side housings.

Hmm, over double the exhaust port size w/ out any more overlap!

Plus the turbo manifold would look sweet w/ 6 runners...

Well, probably not happening- but woudn't it be cool?

Renesis coolant o-rings are in the rotor housings, not the sideplates.... S4-S6 13B's have coolant o-ring grooves in the sideplates, not the rotor housings

Maybe if you were really bored you could CNC out a couple coolant passages in a 13B rotor housing (j/k)

thats an idea. If you really wanted to spend some money you could buy Renesis rotor housing to go with it too. I wonder if the 13B oil pan would hook up the same as the Renesis one.
