Main Pulley Removal n/a S4 + gasket question

I've spent the past couple of days reading about people removing the pulleys, as well as removing the E-Shaft nut.

My question is, do you NEED to remove the E-shaft nut to get the pulleys off ?

I spent about 20 minutes last night smacking the pulleys with a hammer last night and couldn't get them off.

I removed the 4 bolts from the front, along with the small ring that is directly under the bolts.

The FSM looks to say that you don't need to take off that nut.

Next question.
I'm swapping all of the components from one short block to another. (i.e. intake manifold, water pump, etc.) What gaskets am I going to need to replace for sure ?

I'd like to try to avoid dropping a shitload of money on a gasket set if I'm just going to use half of it...

1987 GXL

Thanks in advance

First question:

the pulley on the front of the eccentric shaft should just come off after you get the four bolts out of the way, try using a prybar instead of a hammer use it to pry on the top of the pulley away from the motor then spin the pulley 180 degrees and pry on the other side, also WD40 would probably help a little.

Second question:

if you don't wanna just drop the cash for a new gasket set you should probably figure out what gaskets you're gunna need. use shortcuts like taking off the whole intake manifold and not seperating the upper and lower manifolds, that way you can just buy the lower intake gasket, but my advice would be to just replace them. why do it twice when you could do it once.

Thanks!

On the gasket thing...
I don't mind buying new gaskets, but I don't want to get seals and all that crap that I'm simply not going to use because the internal parts of the engine aren't going to get touched...
