Maf

I was reading in the beefy NA thread looking for some new ideas for power and I saw something about a Mustang MAF sensor, why would that be a mod? More accurate or something along those lines? Can I expect anything from doing that I hsve a buddy who has a totalled Mustang who I could get it off of.

That was probably me, I'm not done with that modification yet though. I tried to list the benefits on its how-to page, here:
http://howto.globalvicinity.com/gv_w...=120&co=1&vi=1

I'm not done because I haven't worked on it in a few months! It's very close to being finished. All I have to do is finish swapping the IAT and atmospheric pressure sensors.

"This how-to details one method for swapping the S4 N/A AFM for a 70mm '95 Mustang 5.0 hot-wire MAF without a standalone."

If I remember correctly, '95 was the last year this particular MAF was used. I'm not sure how far back this model went, but my guess is it's been around while. Here are the numbers on my MAF:

F2VF-12B579-A1A
AFH70-04

It has a 4-pin oval plug, labeled A, B, C, and D.

Gah, so close and you haven't finished it. What, do I need to get you a hooker as incentive?

Is this mod to remove the AFM with the stock ECU???? Has anyone tried this out yet?? it is a lil pricey but seems like it has good functions with it. Autotune with the wideband so the Noobs of tuning (like myself) dont blow our **** up

Seems a bit crazy when you can have a full standalone for under $300 (Megasquirt). And with the standalone you eliminate the 20 year old wiring harness and gain the tuning capability that you could never have with the stock ECU no matter what AFM you use...

How much work does a Megasquirt take to use on an S4 N/A?

Yeah, I think I said something about finishing this in November or December, but I guess I got distracted. I'll see what I can do this weekend. I need to find a way to attach the AFM and MAF in series under the hood so I can drive on the freeway to confirm that this works under real driving conditions (as opposed to in my garage).

That's cool that it goes to speed-density, but it's extremely pricey! This MAF mod costs ~10-20 USD, excluding the MAF itself.

Considering the 760 dollar kit comes with wideband display and controller and boost controller I dont think its that bad. A decent boost controller is going to run you 300.. a decent wideband display is going to run you another 300. So basically your paying 159.00 to control your A/F mixtures (it is minus timing I believe though) and getting rid of your restrictive AFM.

I know I wouldnt be able to tune a Megasquirt by myself at all, and if you get the full harness some of us would need it to get it installed which can cost some money depending on what shop you took it to, provided they knew how to install it. They only have the plug n play for the S4 NA on the megasquirt, correct?
