Which LSD to install
I just did a 5 speed swap on my S5 vert. I want to swap the diff in the car. What year and model should I get a diff from? Thanks

It depends on what tranny you installed, if you installed an N/a tranny, find an N/a limited slip, or you'll have to get halfshafts to go along with a TII diff and a custom driveshaft.

I'd recommened an 86-88 GXL, or 88 GTU rear end. It's a 4.1 rear, so you will retain ths shorter gear for better accelleration. Another bolt-in choice would be the 89-90 GTUs rear end, but they are hard to find and are usually quite expenisve. They do however, have a 4.3 ratio, which will improve acelleration 5% over the 4.1

I just got a TII rear end with FD lsd in it, haven't put it in my car yet, still finishing the 13bt swap. Do you guys know how much I will gain 0-60 when I put the 4.1 in and take out the 3.9. (its a vert). My math I ended up with 1.2 secs faster.
How much better are the FD lsd then the s4 clutch-types, I haven't driven either.

I must of fucked up somewhere, but I've also heard that from other ppl. You've felt it, so your're right. How bout a 4.9? I saw a FB with a 13bt modded out with a 4.9, thats gotta be fast as hell.

i'd love lower gears but they are expensive, anyone know where to get 4.3 gears for under 500 bucks? how about a rebuild kit for a 86 gxl lsd? that would be a nice upgrade for me

No one has mentinoed that if he uses the 8.8 rear end, he will also need to swap axles and have a custom driveshaft made to connect the NA tranny to 8.8 rear.
Stick with the NA rear!

I think I'm addicted
I would choose Clutch Type over vLsd (poor me, having an S5 with vLSD)
but depending on your taste, Torsen is good if u don't want the hassle of rebuilding

Japanese rear-ends have a 4.3 ratio I think. I'm sure you could find a used one cheap. The aftermarket gear-sets available are usually 4.33, so they're even lower.
As for the LSD... If I was you and had $1000 to blow, I'd get an aftermarket clutch-type LSD (1.5 of 2-way). Otherwise, an S4 LSD (mechanical, out of a TII or a GTUs I think) would probably be a cheaper alternative.

The FD guys are finding S4 Turbo2 clutch type LSDs to swap into they car.. and all you guys want to find a FD Torsens to swap into your Turbo2 I swapped a Miata 1.8 Torsen into a 4.3 GTUs rear end, but that was just because it is better than the viscous.. and I found the Torsen for cheap. The clutch type LSD is actually very good, and does have advantages over the torsen.
