Any other s4 or s5 regular clutch type should fit in your housing fine. Meaning everything except turbo lsd. Are you swapping out the entire housing and gears or just the pumpkin gears?

Man, if I were you I would just get the whole new (or new to you) lsd, meaning you don't have to mess with opening up the case/housing to get new gears in. Plus you don't have to mess with things like backlash, and replacing all the bearings. I've done it and it wasn't that fun. It's sooo much easier to just get a totally different differential (housing and gears) and just swap the whole thing in at one time. I'd say about 15 times easier. But it costs just a little more. Not that much more mind you. Lets say you get used LSD gears from someone for $100, you could probably get the used Housing with gears in it for $150. But it would be WELL worth your time unless you have a lot of nice tools, a lot of knowledge, and a lot of spare time. Oh and changing out the LSD still in the housing isn't a small project either. It took a friend and me an ENTIRE day to swap mine out and change the pumpkin, and I knew what I was doing.

If you want a good lsd go with a miata torsen lsd, it will fit into your diff case and their are some write-ups for it if you search. I have an FD torsen lsd in my TII diff housing and it is awesome. Doesn't fade out if you drift a couple laps on the track.

Well, I was thinking this guy probably isn't too experienced in doing any differential work, with questions like,

I was just advising him to try to not get in over his head. But if you want to climb that hill, be my guest. I'm not saying it's not more beneficial if you CAN change out your own gears but just know it is harder and you might need special equipment, and knowledge. If you can and you know what your doing, heck yeah man, do it.

bdrx-7 put his straight in with no gear swap and his was a lot easier. Know that a lot of s4 GXL's came stock with clutch type LSD's. I believe that's what I used in my housing and it works fine. If you don't really know what your doing, though, you might just stick with the full LSD swap.

Drifting is an art just like any other racing form. It takes practice and skill to perfect. Plus it's freakin' fun.

theman4444 has the point... Do a full rear assembly swap -- don't bother trying to change out just the LSD unit -- in over your head in a big hurry IMO.

And as he stated, any LSD from any other NA car will work. Size is the key, IIRC 7" diffs on all non-turbo cars, 8" diff on turbos...
As long as the size is right -- 7" in this case -- they are all interchangeable. The only difference in the units is viscious vs. clutch type. Clutch types can wear out but are rebuildable and tend to lock up quicker than viscious (assuming they are in good shape). Viscious don't wear out (although given enough HP will break) and are not rebuildable and tend to lock up a little slower. How much of a difference? Honestly can't say, I've never experienced either one for comparison.
