LSD diff. oil?
I have recently installed a TII rear-end and need to fill it with the proper oil. the manual says SAE 90. I am having trouble locating this LSD gear oil.
is there anything else i can use that will not damage my rear end? say, 80w-90 with some LSD additive?
this is my first LSD and i don't want to ruin it. I searched and could not find anything specific.
Thanks in advance

85W140 is too thick for our diffs. an 80W90 or 85W90 is fine, even a 75W90 is better than than a 85W140
A 85W140 acts like a 85W when cold but a 140W when warm... that is just robbing HP and not providing sufficent movement for proper cooling.
if you can't find a 75W90 or 80W90 with for a LSD, just dump some LSD additive in with the gear lube.

What year TII LSD is it? From the Factory Tech Data sheets:
86-88 Limited Slip API Service GL-5 SAE 90 w/(Special lubricant added for Limited Slip Differentials) REQUIRED FOR CLUTCH TYPE DIFFERENTIALS!!!
89-91 Limited Slip: Viscous LSD; API SERVICE GL-5 SAE90
All viscosity's quoted are for Temps above 0º F
A friendly reminder: If you don't know the CORRECT ANSWER, please do not post your invalid info that could cost other members time and money and Possibly messed up parts!

When it takes more energy to turn the gears in the oil it robs power....
I can attest to the power robbing properties of 85w140 oils. I mistakenly put that **** in my blazer and it would take a buttload of power to turn the wheels when that **** was cold. It ends up like molasses in the cold. Straight 90 weight is what you want. LSD additive oils should be availible at all auto parts stores. Don't go to walmart looking for the stuff. Its a little more expensive, but then again so is an LSD...

you guys rock
looks like its from a S4 (86-88) rear end.
so, 75w90 or 80w90 along with some LSD additive shouldn't damage anything until i can find some SAE 90 correct? or should i just hold out for the SAE 90 stuff?

Some parts of the country straight 90w is almost impossible to find, so short of special ordering it, you may want to use an 80W90, or a synthetic.
But it must be a GL-5 gear lube no matter what and if equipped with a LSD an LSD additive should be used.
