CA Lsd...

1988 SE lowered 2 inch no other real mods.

So im gettin tired of having a negative rear end, ive had 3 rx7s and i bought this one cuz of the condition and it being a grocery getter for an old lady, so its got basically only one wheel spinning. Can a GXL lsd work in my car? Is it any different than my basic diff? What all would i need with it if i purchased one? Thanks alot guys!

It will bolt right in, but most likely the donor LSD clutches are worn out by now. It is a little over $400 in parts to rebuild it.

If you want to drift then you are probably better off with an aftermarket LSD.

all lsd in the n/a engines will bolt up with each other.
as Evil said, what ever stock lsd you buy, it will need a rebuild. 20 years of use will wear them out if they werent rebuild in their lifetime. S4 lsd are better then the S5 ones. S5 vlsd from what I know cant be rebuilt? only replaced.

if its a clutch lsd from a S4, yes it should.
With that many miles, it probably doesnt even work anymore or to even 1/4 of its potential.

It bolts right in. As others have mentioned, it's probably worn out. But the clutches from Mazdatrix because from the dealer, they are quite expensive. Replace, rebuild your axle shafts while you are there.

I'm amazed that a 2nd gen dropped 2 inches is even drivable.

hey bro if ur gonna stay NA and just wanna have some fun id just suggest getting your diff welded provided it does come with some cons like hoppin on tight turns and parking, it looks silly sometimes when i park, especially with the ladys lookin

had mine welded for 3yrs no problems at all yet cost me 50$

a welded diff will seriously take a huge *** toll on your tires.
It will also be VERY dangerous driving in the rain on turns or highway.

I have a 240 with a welded diff and it is not fun as a daily driver when it rains, or when you have to keep buying tires.

But i have a chassis currently sitting in back yard that got for free just need the tranny to complete it all Thats all going into my n/a and my n/a drivetrain will be in the chassis for now...Glad i read this forum about the diffs cause I thought both s4 and s5 could be rebuilt.... Good luck dude!
