lsd
do the lsd's have stubs on them at all? You can test by turning them if they do, and seeing whether the stubs move in the same direction or different directions. Same means that it is an LSD.

Someone needs to mention that the TII and NA diff are different parts. You can't directly swap.
LSDs should in theory have a tag on the drain plug telling you to use the appropriate lubricant for an LSD.

I don't think this is quite accurate.
I believe from the S4 (86-88) models the GXL and GTU had the n/a LSD and the TII had the turbo LSD. However, in the S5 models (89-91) the GXL and GTU had open differentials. The S5 cars that had LSD rear ends were the GTUs (note the small s, this had an n/a LSD) and of course the TII which had the turbo LSD.
As Aaron mentioned the TII and N/A differentials are different and are not interchangeable without changing the driveshaft and the halfshafts (I'm not sure if the transmission then needs changed to accept the different driveshaft).

should also be mentioned that the S4 86-88 TII LSD are clutch type and rebuildable, however the S5 89+ are VLSD and not rebuildable, the fluid is simply changed (which most I have seen arou 100,000+ miles with original fluid
If you decided to go with an aftermarket diff they are interchangeable for the S4 and S5 TII LSD... same PN. basically the rear used the same carrier and the internals are different.
I suggest OS.Giken.

I searched and you are right the S4 GXL GTU and Turbo had LSD rear ends. (assuming that everyone here knows that the Turbo and N/A diff is different) but acording to icemarks sticky on the FC equipment list the S5 GTU and the GXL had an open diff but only the Turbo had the LSD........interesting.
