Low Oil Pressure - a fun topic!!

O.K. I know this has been asked before and I've read lots of threads, but this specific issue is not addressed. My oil pressure at initial idle is 30, past 3k RPM it is 60+, but if you let it idle for quite a while (10+ minutes) the oil pressure - according to the stock gauge drops to under 10. I am using 20W50 Valvoline VR1 Racing Oil. Is this a case of a bad sending unit - or is it something else.

stock or aftermarket gauges?
60 PSI AT IDLE IS HIGH!
regardless, if stock, check your sending unit. They are notoriousfor going bad.

.... or pull off the wire and clean the gunk off of it and the connector itself.

For every 1k rpms, you should have around 10psi. Until about 60psi. After that, my gauge holds steady.

Do you have an aftermarket oil cooler, or just a stock one on your 3 rotor? (Or are you talking about your stock 10AE?) I've noticed over the years that when the oil gets hot, the pressure goes down.

As for oil, i use mobile 1, 15-50 synthetic. Never had any bearing problems with any of my motors. (I've had tons of cars/engines) Thats what Rob told me to run, so thats what i use. Not to mention, i also notice after a hard run on Syn. that the oil pressure won't go as low, and recover oil psi faster than dyno stuff.
