How do u RESET the ECU!?!?

umm, i know this might b a "n00bie" question, but i just got my 89FC, and ive been readin posts about resettin the ECU, ??? i have no idea how u do that, and what good does it do?! , please tell me

Disconnect the negative battery terminal, then get inside and step on the brake pedal for no less than 5 seconds. After that, re-connect the cable then start 'er up. All error codes should be cleared and it (ECU) will adjust to your new settings and you'll probably end up gaining a few MPG . It should also help with any idle problems.

I had to do this when I was getting codes for my O2 sensor. Replaced the sensor, then reset ECU, no more check engine light and the 'high' 1,500 RPM idle seemed to settle nicely at 750 from then on .

Do you know if the 86-88 cars have the Cehck engine light??

I've never seen it.

I've heard that they didn't. Do a search for it, i KNOW there is a thread out there that shows you 86-88 guys how to MAKE a CE light so you can pull codes if you have a problem
