TB mod, msd ignition, platinum spark plugs, no emissions what so ever, no cats, stainless resonator in the main cat location, to two bomz evo mufflers. Car will shoot anywhere from 4 to 5 footers in neutral, moving and they're a bit more spectacular. I need a better camera to capture them with.

Try changing the plugs and see how it goes. It could be too rich and fouling the plugs.

Just to clear things up in my head.... The flames are really cool, but doesn't this mean that your car is running ridiculously rich? That would also mean that you are sacrificing some real power gains by not leaning it out with an s-afc or some other fuel/timing controller. If I'm wrong about this let me know.

well, you know, these cars are run pig rich from the factory. so 9 times out of ten you get flames.

an RX-7 backfiring isn't new.. specially since most of us have cars that are 15years or older.. now if your car is only smoking when you let off the throttle they your OMP(Oil Metering Pump) could be injecting too much oil, you have a new exhaust with some fiberglas, or your oil control rings are starting to wear so you get blow by at hi vacume

if it's the ladder of the 3 then you probably shouldn't be going so hard on your engine unless you have money for a rebuild soon

my 87 backfires like crazy but doesn't smoke.. smoked like a bitch as soon as i installed my exhaust but every since then i get maybe 5 seconds of light smoke on a cold day as soon as i start it..

PS. odd but a few girls i know actually love the backfiring and the faint whinning i get from my sincros when easing into second on a downshift? who knew
