Its probably back firing, and shooting flames out the tail pipes. Do you have catalytic converters?

NORMAL! As stated above, it's a backfire. Don't worry nothing is breaking.

And for the fourth time...its a backfire...dont worry its ok...almost all vehicles are capable of doing it and will prolly in the future...i mean if i can make a golf cart backfire then there is nothing to be worried about on a car...you could say its a cars way of burping in a way. I always loved the sound personally

burping would be setting your carb on fire because you time advanced way to far... and thats just friggin scary.

it's a rotary, they always backfire. The smoke is from the excess gas burning off.

what type of smoke are talking about? If its dark grey or black, its just the fuel burning off when it hits the oxygen outside the exhaust.

If its blue or white-white, it may be worth looking into...

The smoke is also burning oil from the oil injection system, at higher rpms it will inject a little extra for the motors sake.

Check Your Plugs, it could be fouled. Don't keep backfiring your car its not good.
Also check your A/F ratio it could be way too rich

well, you do breathe in and out of your mouth, so it's kind of hard to compare to a car since they have different for each. Anyway, checking your A/F ratio without a wideband o2 sensor is pretty damn difficult. The narrow band is just too innaccurate to be any good. Pull the leading plugs (bottom) and see how they look.
