Question lossing compression 87 fc3s na

I fixed the last problem that I had, I replaced the fuel filter and filled up with high oct. Now I have a new problem.

I'm having a popping noise in my exhaust, a clicking noise coming from my engine and my revs flucuate during a cold start ( right after I start it ). It only flucuates between 500 rpms and also goes away after the car warms up.

These are some of my ideas, I insalled a cat when I bought the car, the guy who had the car before me had a test pipe on it and I wanted to past emissions so I bought a cat from advance auto for cheap.
I was told that if the car runs real rich it could melt the catylist in the cat and clog my exhaust. Another idea is my air flow meter was also tampered with by the guy who owned the car before me. He like cut into it to make the car belive that more air was being deliverd into the engine so it would give it more fuel.

Or it could be my fuel injectors need to be replaced , thats probably what the clicking sound is that I hear.

Now those are my inexpensive solutions. Or it could be that my apex seals are going. I don't know, but if thats it I have a friend thats willing to replace them, but I want to be certain what it is first, I need help and I can't aford any of this crap.
So if any one knows what the problem may be please let me know .....Thanks danny

what you got there sounds like a vacuum leak. i suggest a tune up, according to the FSM, if that doesnt fix it, id suggest getting that motor rebuilt.

I suggest you STOP USING HIGH OCTANE FUEL IN A NON-TURBO. There's no damn need or purpose, all it does is HURT performance. Run 87!

the revs fluctuating seems like a vacuum leak. my car idled weird due to an intake leak.

for some reason, the popping reminds me of backfire. but i really had no idea on that so don't take my word for it.
