Losing Power Please Help
I just bought a 1987 Gen 2, that is losing power. The compression is fine, but the car will only go about 45 MPH. I am really leaning to the clutch slipping or the fuel pressure being to low, but I am not sure. Is there anyone out there with any other ideas of what it could be thats causing the problem.
The car sat for a year without being run before I bought it. It started right up after a quick jump. Its a great project car, I just need a better defined direction as to where to start. Thanks.

Well, if the car just falls flat on its face at 3800, then I would suspect a secondary injector problem. HOWEVER, lots of people here have had similar experiences with clogged cats or poor fuel systems (Clogged filters, etc..). But the power loss should be a little more gradual.

Okay, I just talked to the previous owner, and he said that the power just droped off right from the start. He said he put a new catalytic converter on it thinking that was the problem, but it didn't help.
He mentioned that the direct oil injectors into the cylinders weren't hooked up and he drove it for 20,000 miles like that. Please tell me thats not bad news.

And it sounds like ur secondary injectors arent coming on(maybe?)
An apex seal is the seal that goes on the apex of the rotor, I dont think bad seals would cause you to suddenly loose power at 3500 RPM's..
I hope not, I just got the car this past weekend, and have had it my mind that I was going to have to repalce the engine. But, when it started for me, I have now got hope. I guess I can go back to engine replacement in my plans, if worse comes to worse.
Well, do a compression check before you lose hope. The signs your exhibiting are not necesarily indicative of a blown motor.

And before all the forum dummies start flaming you, we dont have cylinders...

Okay, I am going to eliminate the possibilities in this order.
1. Compression check
2. Fuel pressure check
3. Fuel filters changed
Is this right, how do I check if my secondary injector is coming on without taking it to the mazda dealer. I haven't found a Rotary mechanic in the Memphis area yet?.?

Are you kidding? KEvin is in Knoxville I think, and he is probably your best bet.

Do the compression check, it will determine what happens next.
My bad, he is in Morristown.

500 miles away from knoxville. Anyone know a rotary guy closer to Memphis. RX7 Heaven is in Dexter, Missouri which is 150 miles away. I will take it there if I can't find one closer.
