Looking at maybe purchasing a T2

i've never posted here, as i am a FB owner, but today when talking amongst a few friends of a friend ... I was told someone was selling his T2, i think its an 88 not sure yet. the owner wasn't there at the time of me seeing it but i'll back there tomorrow. Now looking at thing from the exterior, things seemed to be a pretty good shape, with no real rust problems (besides the outside rear fender well which he cut out a bit about 2 inches or so to fix rust) i haven't looked at the under body much as it was sitting on grass and has been parked there for about a year now. The body has 105xxxkm's on there. As far as the engine goes, i've been told it was running, but he blew one of the turbo's on there. I'll be checking compression tomorrow on the engine, and normal stuff that i know of from owning an FB. The interior is all stock grey cloth unmolested and very clean. As for the price ... he is asking 800$ which i'm sure i can prob talk him down. What do you guys thing about this? what areas should i look into for rust and stuff?

thats cheap for a T2

real cheap

at that price, unless its falling apart, you are getting a decent deal.

check for rust on the rear wheel wells, thats the place most fc's rust on the exterior. I can't help you with the under side because i lucked out and mines not rusted bad anywhere underneath.

goodluck, that sounds like a marvelous deal :]

800 for a running TII? Sounds kinda risky. TurboS? They are single turbo.

I 've checked all the whells, all solid not a hint of rust on the inside ... so it is single turbo ... i was just assuming since it was called T2 thought it might have 2 turbo's

Yah, I can get a non running TII for 900 so 800 for a running one is odd. And a 7 sitting for a year isnt very good for them. If the body is in good shape and everything is there still 800 for a rolling chasis TII is a good deal even though its not an S5(the newer, cooler edition)

a good friend of mine got a running T2 with low compression for like $900. It had a recently repainted body with only 110k miles on it.

then why the hell did you post those pics dude? Did you wanna us to see what a T2 looks like LOL LMFAO~!! You dont know much about t2's my friend, and that okay. But before you go sin king 800 on a "sitting'' t2, i would be very caucious. I know that that would even be a good asking price for a non-runnig t2, but its 800 bucks down the fdrain if you cant diagnose the problems it is inevetabely going to have after sitting for a substantial amount of time. Good luck though, and start reading up on s4 t2's.

Just buy the damn thing running or not. $800 is a good deal for an FC with almost no rust and a straight body. Even if the motor is blown you have a nice shell to work with.

umm canadian dollar would more like be around 550$US ... alright so i went and met up with the actual owner of the car today, the story is pretty different than told by the other guy, yes the turbo is blown on there ... but the engine doesn't seem to even turn over now (its actually been sitting for about 2 years now) i tried doing a compression check on the engine nothing on both sides. The body is in excellent condition though, I pulled the carpet in the front nothing there, under the bins looks brand new, pulled the spare tire, just a tad of surface rust nothing serious though. We tried to pull it out of there, but i think that the brakes are locked up. The actualy year of the car is an 87.

Now if i do get this, this is the thing that will prob need to be done:
Rebuild engine
New Turbo (prob something bigger)
New fuel and brake lines
Change all the oils
Maybe needs new gas tank
Switch to front mount intercooler
New springs and sturts
New rubber

Anything else that i'm missing? Also what do you think this will run me?

I just bought a running 1987 Turbo II for $1000 US. It needs a clutch and some body work. So running or not, you are getting a deal. TII's are getting harder and harder to find, get it while you can.
