I'll have a Coke!
yeah, that's a stock shifter with the top half and rubber removed. i've heard if you remove the top half it rattles like a bitch and with that short throw length it's going to be a bitch to shift.
look at the different pivot points on the stock shifter and the short shifter in these two pictures, that's where the real difference lies.

That would be a stock piece that is cut down a LOT. A quality short shifter doesn't necesarily lower the mechanism but changes the pivot point. Real ones are expensive for our cars though...Mazdaspeed and C's both make them at $300 plus I think...mazdatrix released a nice looking billet one (looks just like the mazdatrix) with solid bushings and all for $200 bc it was too expensive to stock the other company's. I will be buying their piece...

i have a RE Amemiya Short throw shifter that i bought to put into my vert. i am selling it or willing to trade for any aftermarket performance or cosmetic parts for 89+ RX-7. email me if your interested. badboy@kuentos.guam.net
by the way i bought it along with a "C's" short throw shifter and ended up installing the C's soo the other shifter is just sitting.

it will take more effort to shift, as said before. True SS kits tend to be notchy and noisy and harder on syncro's but they feel very direct during fast shifts and shouldn't abuse a healthy tranny if the car is properly maintained.
