Most of those guys seem cool. What exactly do you think is wrong with what they said? A late 90's maxima with a five speed will give a NA an even fight, and by the manufacturers numbers they are quicker. Having an auto doesn't help but the race checks out o.k. in my book. With some mods the max would loose but no mods were mentioned. A 2000 or later maxima would hand it to a stock NA. I've got a NA and I would like to think it is faster than any car on the road, but never underestimate your oponent.

1st I have a 97 Maxima

2nd that "1/3There2/3ToGo" has been at 1/3 for over 2 years and talks outta his ***.

He says "ohh it has "dual" exhaust", so he thinks it is a turbo. When he "says" he has a dual exhaust on HIS Maxima (picture), but is N/A.......

That ****** is the BIGGEST **** talker I've ever seen.

2 more things;
1-from a standstill any Maxima should get off the line quicker than any FC (turbo or not).

2-from a 30mph roll any FC (turbo or not) would pull on a Maxima.

YES, that guy is deffinitely a moron; but the rest of the guys and the general conversation were just about right IMO. But I can still believe that he won the race. Oh well!

because the Maxima is heavier and has less power, should not the RX-7 be quicker initially and the Maxima after?

First of all the Maxima isn't REALLY heavy, and second of all it's got a good bit more power than a N/A RX-7. The 4th Gen Max (95-99) has 190hp and about 190ft/lbs of torque. (don't remember the actual number) The biggest advantage that the Maxima has is that it has a 3.0 liter motor that produces a lot of usable power. The RX-7 is much more peaky and isn't nearly as easy to make go fast. I would bet that even my old 89 Maxima Automatic (3rd gen) would put up a good fight against an inexperienced driver in a stock 2nd gen (n/a). I've beat a Civic EX with mods :-)

Take care,

I find this to be not true at all. I have raced this 98 maxima with intake, exhuast, and a performance clutch down at the street races about 5 times and every time I pull about half a car lentgh ahead right off the line. And thats with my worn out stock clutch that doesn't grab very well. When I get a better clutch I'm sure I will be able to pull even more on him. I also pull ahead from 5.0 litres off the line which have even more displacement and usable power.

I know that I used to drive an 88 GXL for a short while, and my girlfriend at the time drove a 95 maxima and my NA was NO match for her automatic Maxima. Those are some fast *** sedans in stock form even, and as much as i would like to say that a stock NA or even a slightly modded one would take a mid 90's + Maxima, I just dont think that its at all true. My turbo ll is barely faster than A stock Maxima now. By that I mean that it will beat them, but by no means will it run off and leave one.

I also agree that that guy on the Maxima forum was full of it. I especially like his "dual exhaust" comment...what a schmuck!:p

Just like I told him. There is no way that a rex should have been beaten off the line.I think the only place the max would have had a chance is a rolling start at highway speed.I own a maxima and my N/A 86 will pull it ANYWHERE , ANYWAY!!!!Mind you there has been nothing done to the maxima and a few minor things done to my rex , but still, I don't see him pulling out that bad.

Some of those sedans though are starting to pack alot of power, you really wish you had read the motortrend stats page sometimes when you get eaten alive by some "dad" in his 4 door, in my N/A, it has happened to me, and by somethings I would never have expected to challenge me, in my TII its a different story, they know they are quicker than alot of cars, but when you beat them, it blows their minds, and some of the "dads" will get so mad as to flip you the bird for making them look slow, sore losers..
THings that have gotten me in my N/A:
Mercedes coupe
BMW coupe
Nissan altima
dakota 5.9 r/t
5.9 grand cherokee
lexus sedan.
infinitee q-45
impala ss
mustang 5.0
hurst olds
omni GLH shelby
daytona turbo
Things that I have beaten with the N/a
other n/a's
v-6 camaro
late 70's 911 n/a
most pickup trucks
horse drawn wagon hay ride..
Most pimped out honda's

I have not been beat in my TII, but I know its gonna happen, I am just not sure when, there is some really fast **** out there..Max

Don't forget the maxima is FWD! I don't think it would be quicker off the line than ANY rx7 (maybe a 1st gen with bad seals)

What has FWD got to do with it? If anything it would probably launch better as the engine weight is on the driving wheels.. Max

well did anyone but me notice that the times when he said he got the rx7 was at about the speed limit. like on the highway he said i finally got him at about 70,,,well if he races much like i do ,,i feel once i have proved my point i will level off at the speed limit

just a thought

kinda like those guys you race at a light and you slow down becuse you don't feel the guy is worth getting you license suspended for,,,and then once you slow down they blow by you and then slow up to give you a look like they jsut beat teh crap out of you,,,,,,,,god damnit that really pisses me off

The reason I say the Maxima is quicker off the line is because I've done 60' times in both of my cars. The Maxima was a bit quicker. But the RX-7 pulls hard and has a faster 1/4 mile.

So the advantage in:
Low end (take off)-- Maxima because 210 ft-lbs. of torque
Top end (highway roll) -- RX-7 because produces HP until redline (which is also 2k RPMs higher than Maxima)

Erhmm.... FWD tend to not launch better. Even though weight is over the driven wheels, as soon as you begin to accelerate the nose of the car lifts and there is a weight transfer to the rear wheels. Don't forget since 7's are 50/50 front rear weight split, there is a goodly portion of weight on the driven wheels to start with.

I once rented a 1999 Nissan Maxima and GTECHed the sucker a few times. It was an AUTOMATIC as well. 0-60mph in 6.7 secs 1/4 mile in 15.29. 5spd ones according to car mags does 6.6 & 15.1. That's plenty fast for a huge 4 door sedan with only 190hp. I don't see how it can't walk on a non-turbo FC that stock or slightly modded!:p
