Lisa Bonez

20 years ago I had major hots for her.

Seriously though, does the Bonez high flow cat have any performance increase over stock. My original cat is split and leaking, I can get the seams rewelded or pony up for a few more HP and more cash. Is it worth the extra change???

ps: 88 'Vert

if u can get rid of it. put a stright pipe in place of it. If you have emission laws then yes the high flow cat will give u better performance than an old stocker!

Yep, if you have emissions get the highflow cat, if not get a straightpipe. Or even better, the Racing Beat downpipe (or header) and presilencer.

I was happy with mine. Noticeable difference under high throttle, better sound, and the car smelled nicer as well.

I think there are fitment issues with the 'verts though, so make sure to ask RP before you buy.

It is a very miinor fitment issue on my '90 vert. Mine had to have a small 'ding' put in the pipe where it passes a chassis crossmember. No big dent, just a ding, otherwize it would fit but it would be in a bind and vibrate. No way the ding affects flow in any meaningful way in my application.

When I was looking for my car I test drove an S4 in Burnaby that had a header and cat, so it's not technically legal, but he got it through Aircare no problem. So it is possible to get it to pass. Hell my 15 year old stock cats with quite a noticable exhaust leak passed with flying colours last year.

I think I'll get one of the Bonez cats this year, I'd like to be able to have performance and emissions freindliness at the same time.

Mine passed Aircare too, easily. But after nearly 20 years, they leak and are likely plugged. I know Eunos in N Van has them. I am not going the header route though, too noisy for me.

From what I've seen the Eunos prices are a little steep. It might be cheaper to order from the US.

RP sells a bonez header to go with the bonez cat. It has a tap in it for air injection, so it keeps the emissions operable.

However, as far as I know, it isn't CARB approved, so it still is a no go here in cali.

since it's a S4 N/A, stay away from the straight pipes unless it's a racing beat unit. you'll lose your 5th/6th port actuation without the backpressure.

You can get away with the superflo system here in cali pretty easily; it passes smog and looks stock enoguh for them. They wont go for the headers, though, unless you get a smog hookup

If its anything like their midpipe, the split air tap is questionable at best at operating the aux ports. I had the mid-pipe and it didn't work them at all.

I am using the Bonez cat with a Racing beat Header on my 88 Vert. The 5&6 port actuators are working fine with no hesitation at 3800 rps whatsoever. It mated up perfectly with the oem type y pipe and mufflers. I find this combo to be a little loud especially since I am also running turbo housings.
I am thinking about replacing the existing Cat back stuff with either Borla or RB.
Summit Racing also has a Magnaflow cat available to bolt up directly to the factory exhaust manifold and if I recall it is not very expensive compared to the Bonez.

So if i got the Bonez down pipe and high flow cat for my 88 rx7 turbo it should pass. High flow cat just sounds like it would not be legal.

Ive got the superflo and bonez exhaust. The guy that had it before me got it done at RP in garland. It sounds great but it is stinky. Ive never heard one with factory exhaust so I dont really have much to compare it to. I can however set off car alarms driving down the road though. Its kinda fun to do.

I've passed with a high-flow cat. Most of them will say "49 state legal" or something like that, and describe the states it's not legal in. (49 state legal is a no for California)

There's no gaurantees for passing. It *should* pass the sniffer test, depending on the state of the engine and what's been done to it. It might not pass a visual inspection if there is one. I personally don't see why there's a visual inspection, unless it's only to notice evidence of recently re-installed emissions controls, or bypasses to them. All that should matter are the actual emissions.

Not at all. I am thinking I will just do the Bonez cat and new gaskets. It should still pass the sniffer here, the visual is a joke. If they see something resembling emissions, good enough.

ps: I know it is Lisa Bonet, but then the joke, as crappy as it was, is not there.
