LIM gasket

k. this may sound really stupid, but here it goes. i have 88 turbo ii- the gasket between the LIM and the engine leaks. lower right portion of the gasket was hanging out and i ripped it off (about 1"long). i ordered the gasket, UIM gasket, n the 2 O rings.

today, i took the UIM off and realized that i may have to remove the turbo to remove the LIM. i stopped there, cuz i've taken the turbo off about 3 times in the past 2 months(long story) and i really don't want to do it unless it's really necessary. the symptom is just like a turbo ii with small vac. leak. bad idle at like 500rpm

here's my question, do i have to take the turbo out to take the LIM off? if so, can i get away with using RTV or something to cover the leak/gap instead?(1" long along the lower right corner of LIM)

Yeah, sorry for the bad news.&nbsp If you find a way to do it without removing the turbo, please tell us!

taking it off isn't that bad, I've had to do it about 8 times in the past 6 months, it's putting it back on that's the pain in the ***.

i don't mind the nuts & bolts.. a little PB Blaster and they are off.. it's trying to remove or install the turbo and the exhaust manifold onto the engine and DP... it's a nightmare trying to do that with no lift, outside in the sun, and by yourself... it's not something i look forward to.

i guess i'll do that wastegate porting i was thinking about. and remove the twin scroll

I actually got it down to 45 minutes removal including draining the coolant, and 45 minute installation including filling the coolant and checking for leaks.

well, just got done removing the turbo n manifold. and replaced the UIM & LIM gaskets n O rings. but let me tell you.. it's not fun doing it under a sun in a parking lot (i live in a townhouse) and the damn GNATS and the BEES!!!

just ordered some carbide burrs from ebay for my dremel.. i got 2 good s4 turbos and another with blown oil seal.. so i'll practice a lil b4 i begin on a good turbo.
