So what's the big fukin deal about a lexan sun-roof - my fully operational home-built is going into it's 3rd Canadian winter as I write and has performed flawlessly since I put it in in 2000.
Parts cost me around $70 in total - take a look at my avatar for a pic of the installation which is a complete replacement for the tin roof along with modifications to the interior headliner and etc.

The big deal is not everyone has the time/motivation/ability to make them themself. Same reason car shops are in business... sure, most people COULD do it themself, but a lot don't have the time.
