oakback: because they were completely beyond repair without replacing the quarter. I really wasnt planning on shaving them; to be honest I really didnt want to, but without extensive work I wouldn't be able to do it. But thanks!

clokker: The recess was made using a punch that (I assume) by the previous driver that was in the car last year

and some more picture goodness:

Great work for a show car...but im confused as to why you would put that much work into a race car that will most likely get rubbed or dented during said racing.

i was thinking the exact same thing as I was reading this thread...and then reflected back on my build. Everyone said the same thing to me when I was building my car. And my Responce to them was "I am fully aware of whats going to happen to this car. It was purpose built and I have every intention of putting it into the side of another car or into a wall. Building it is 50% of the fun...and that first time you roll it off the Trailer at the track and every single person in the Pitts somehow manages to have to walk past your car to get a closer look is another 25%. and once you're suited up, and strapped in... its time to destroy something beautiful."

Awesome Job on the body work! keep the pics comming.

I am spending the time because this is my profession; this is what I want to do as a career. I don't want anything I build to be anything less then the absolute best I can do. My goal in life is to build cars for people. Also, I have had a generous amount of time and money to complete this, and I want it to be absolutely perfect if I can help it. It all basically boils down to one thing: I am unable to let something go to a customer if I am not 1000% satisfied with it. Show car? Nah, it will look good from about 5-10'.

I completely agree with you. I want this thing to look the best it can. Sure, its a race car, but it builds confidence when your sitting in something that's absolutely gorgeous. Thanks!

The car is currently wetsanded in 600... ready for taping today...

Alright guys, todays the first big day of two... I'm going to try to get the rest of the car taped up and get some blue laid on today. The design is going to end up being a fairly simple, clean design. The owner wanted something similar to how it looked before, but with this being my first full refinish job I don't want it to look like trash... So; wish me luck.

Sorry guys, I didnt die... yet... I've just been super busy with everything thats going on. The car got painted blue, then sat in my garage because I ran out of time to paint the design. She is currently sitting at the owners shop taped up and ready to be painted with a white, yellow, and orange design on it. We are waiting for a less humid day to finish it, so it will hopefully be done by next week.

Also, we installed the motor, drivetrain, and spent hours figuring out how to make everything look clean. Shes all buttoned up (minus a couple little things) and waiting on getting the paint done then its time for the dyno and testing.

whew... once again, its been wayyyy too long guys. The car is virtually 100% done for the test n tune this friday at Summit Point... Id love to update with all the little details of the build from my last update to this one, but as usual any questions/comments/input is welcome.

I am going to skip past some pictures here, sorry guys. I had finished the paint and such at my shop, then went and did the design at Quarter Mile Customs in New Oxford. There is only one coat of clear on the entire car.

in my garage getting the motor tossed in:

Laying out the design:

Taped up and ready to be sprayed

gettin some color:

all color, no clear:

Thanks man... sticking some numbers on today, charging up the in car camera, and checking over bolts/cleaning/checking/checking/checking. Leaving at 4am tomorrow for Summit, and I'm pretty nervous... Way too many hours spent on working on this thing, but overall I'm super happy with everything came together... Probably another picture update later with the car stickered up, then hopefully some sweet in-car footage saturday/sunday...

Pray for rubber side down

no in-car footage, camera man forgot the battery at home -_-

All I've got are two iPhone videos until my school sesh @ limerock later this month

We learned ALOT this past weekend, setup, what works/what doesnt, etc. So many things have been changed on the car since last year that we are having to completely go through and change our setup... Still working on dialing in the brakes and figuring out how to shave about 18db off the exhaust note to run at Limerock (with the help of two hushpowers, we might be able to get it). Until next time...

What a weekend! We ended up designing 3 different exhaust systems, two of which passed, one of which was 78db at 5000 and 76db at 7600, 12db below the maximum. People were astonished to see a rotary there due to the sound limitations, but we were alright... Couldnt say the same for the mustang guys behind us who got to stuff steel wool in their exhaust.

We ended up having a major problem with heat/fuel delivery... halfway through my third session, the car completely shut off like you pulled the fuel line off. We tried everything, couldnt figure out the problem. We had 3psi of fuel, so we chased the problem back to the pump/tank... We "solved" the problem by filling the tank up with fuel, but when we got the car home we found that the fuel lines from the pickup to the top of the tank were push on fittings, and you could rotate them by hand... No, that wasnt something we put together...

We have NJMP this weekend, so hopefully everything goes well and everythings still in one piece by the end of the weekend...

And FINALLY, as promised, an in car camera. This is me in the car:

Nice work on the car -- that's a lot of work you've put in. In the OP you said you were going to run the car in ST2 and EP. I believe the roll cage is legal for ST2, but it's certainly not legal for EP. In EP the cage can go through the firewall, but can't connect to the chassis at a point more than 12 inches forward of the front axle centerline. From the looks of it, yours connects to the radiator support and the bumper support.

Hmm, haven't heard of that (regarding the EP rules) but we'll have to look into that. Currently they have us in ST4 as per the new rules, so thats where were at now. Thanks!
