Left Headlight
My left headlight does not fully retract.. It sticks up half an inch when down.. I have disconnected the battery and tried to lower it manually and that didn't work.. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to get it to close properly?? Thanks for the help,

You made sure that the assembly is not hanging up anywhere, right? I T-boned a car at low speed one night and it messed up the bumper and fender a bit which in turn bent the retractor arm and plastic pieces. We straightened the bumper and fender, but it still would not go all the way down. Had to end up replacing the plastic pieces and bending the arm back a bit. Just the first thing that came to mind

I checked everything I knew of.. I thought of bending the arm too.. It looks newer than the passenger side one arm.. The joint where the rod connects to the servo motor looks like it is pushing the rod out instead of sitting flat against the bushing.. I will play with it again this weekend and see if I can accomplish something??

Have you had the plastic trim around the headlights off? I didn't quite replace one of mine correctly once and it jammed half way down.
BTW, anytime a headlight isn't either fully up or fully down, there's power to the motors. This will flatten your battery. If you can't fix this, pull the retractor fuse until you do.
In fact pull the fuse anytime you work around the raised headlights, expecially if they're jammed. If they pop loose you could lose a body part...

The motor has limit switches inside that stop them at the right spot. Anytime the motors aren't at the fully up or fully down position, the motors are trying to turn. Reaching one of those two positions trips a limit switch and stops the motors until the headlight switch signals them to move again.

Sorry to hijack the thread... but just for hypotheticality's sake... Is it possible to modify the limit switch so that the car maintains a sleepy-eyed look when the headlights are off, but the retractors still rise to the normal height when they're on?

Just wanted to let everyone know I fixed the light.. The bracket that holds the motor was bent.. I pulled it out and banged it back straight with a small sledgehammer.. Everything works great now(light closes all the way), Looks a whole lot greater too..
