What would you do to a stock 87 GXL with 500 dollars? Ok, well stretch it to 600. Could I make my car faster than a STOCK 87 TII without losing reliability for that amount? My guess would be no, tell me if I'm wrong.

well I have the opportunity to get a turbo car that'll need some work but should be running for that amount or a little more. So I'll go with the conversion

For $600..you probably cant get your car to be faster than a stock T2, unless you can do alot of fabrication. $600 I see being best spent on:
RB Header - $190
Presilencer- $200
CS Catback- $290
Some cone intake- $10-$30

That puts you at over $700 though, but you get the idea. Try and find used items, on the forum, Ebay, etc..

This is all assuming your car is in 100% perfect running condition. If not, money would be better spent on a tune up. PLugs, wires, filters, etc...

and of course the thing is going to be loud as hell isn't it? Yeah, I plan on doing some tuning work on it. I might be selling the parts off of it, maybe even with a port job.

Without porting is it even possible to get it that fast without being rather loud?

Not a chance. You "need" to port if you want to match stock tii levels. But $500(ok, $600) is a great start on an engine swap fund. You'll need around 1500-2000 to do it right, but theoretically you could do it for around 1200 I think (using the stock NA drivetrain). Good luck!

Yes, ..yes is it is. My N/A was very quiet, but the key is a good catback system. The 2 previous systems I had were scary loud, especially after my header. Once I got my Greddy SP system on, it was such a difference. Nice mellow tone, not loud at all. Of course Greddy =$$$.

I believe my N/A was very quick for not having a port job. The cars Ive beaten with it really suprises me. Of course its no comparison to what my turbo2 was..or will be

Sorry..but I have to disagree with you there. Id bet a good amount of money that my N/A would walk all over a stock turbo2.

Nos! just put some extra welds on your floorpans, they tend to fall off at 175 mph.

Once its in perfect runing condition, a 50 shot wouldnt hurt a thing....except for the local rice.

well rotary revolution has a point,

a nitrous kit jetted to say 35-50 hp would give you a bunch of power, but if you're trigger happy youll go through alot of it. for 600 though you can get a good nitrous kit and a turbo fuel pump on ebay...

for long term reliablity i wouldnt reccomend it though.
