lab rat needed

I had a incident a while back where a fcd ruined 2 of my ecu's. What happened was one day I installed a boost controller, new fuel pump and a fcd and when I went to start the car it wouldn't kick over. Sounded like it was flooded. After some diagnosis I found out that my ecu was dead. I replaced it and the car immediately kicked over and ran fine. A week later I was convinced that it must have been something besides the fcd because I was told a fcd couldn't kill an ecu. That week I disconnected the battery and properly installed the same fcd and the exact same thing happened. I replaced the ecu again and have since run without a fcd.

The fcd in question was a racing beat one that I got off of ebay "in perfect working order".

anyway, I've got a Paul Stokes one now and haven't built up the courage to put it on yet.. Since I know it's good I was wondering if there would be any way that a combination of things, for example the fcd with a bad pressure sensor or bad wiring to the ecu, could cause the same problems as before?

I still have the old RB fcd and for testing purposes and curiousity, would anyone dare challange this evil device crafted by the devil himself?

I will send the fcd, free of charge, to anyone with a s4 TII, I'm restricting it to a s4 simply to keep the conditions the same. If you have an extra ecu lying around or just want to challange this theory then this is for you. The up being you may get a free fcd, the down being it may kill your ecu. I just need to know.

any takers?

You probably got the wrong FCD for your car - an '89-91 FCD will blow up an '86-88 car, and vice versa. There's no easy way to look at 'em and tell, really. Might call Racing Beat and see if they have a way to ID it.

yes, plugs were the same and the auction claimed it was for an 87-88.. I just realized that I guess I can only offer it to s4 people..

Maybe you should look into it though, it may have accidentally (or stupidly (by seller)) been swapped with an 89-91 unit... ...give racing beat a call and check before you give it away... you may be able to get some money for it!

I just looked at my S5 RB one. and there is NO markings on it, kinda dumb.

here's a pic if it helps at all... if it looks the same, yours might be an S5 one. either that or they all look the same

thanks guys, I'm definately gonna try and find out what this thing is.. it doesn't look anything like yours Scott.

I would have sold it a while back, but I didn't want to screw another 7 owner over.. this thing caused me a lot of grief..
