keys

What a f*ckin day!!
I just locked my keys in the trunk on my convertible. I would just pop the latch except for the fact that it has always been f*cked up. Tried to tinker with it with no luck. I'm up for any ideas.

The lock smith is my last resort.

Try the keys from another second gen. Some people have found that this works That or find a buddy with a slim jim Or go the old fashion route of using a coat hanger.

I decided whatever and called several locksmiths. None will do my f****** car. Doesn't exactly make for a good night. Now I need any ideas. What about the Mazda Dealership. Do they have a universal key to use?

They might be able to make one with your VIN number.

ok your in luck.

I locked my keys in my car about a month ago

For 15bucks my local dealer made another key for me. To do this you will need to show proof of ownership. Title worked best cause it has the Vin on it as well.

The other way. Not sure if it will work with vert.If you can get to the trunk from inside the car.
Breaking in our cars is unbelievably easy. I unlocked my car in under 5 seconds(I have a pro lockout kit though)

PM me about how to slim jim it. I don't want to post it publicly.

The dealership will be cheaper and better than a locksmith. I'll never go to a locksmith now that I know a dealership can make a key. Then you'll have a spare too. I keep mine in my wallet now just in case.

Oh and I'm not a thief for people asking why I have a lockout kit. I had it from my parents store for when they locked customers keys in their car.

My Probe keys don't open my FC's doors, lol. My FC keys will open the Probe though, but that's just bacause the locks are busted and anything you can stick in there will unlock 'em unless you lock 'em with the key instead of just pushing the **** down.

*useless post*

Well, my 88SE keys didn't work in my 88 GTU door. So that's only if your locks are old and crappy.

Dunno, my probe keys are from a the next series up and they open the rx7 doors (actually just the passenger) due to some lock swapping on a broken door handle. The rx7 keys open the probe door with a little work. Kinda ironic-- from diffrent years though.

I know it's a bit late now, but here are two lesson I've learned from experience:
1. Never put your keys down in the boot. Ever. Not even for a second.
2. Get a spare key cut and keep it in you wallet at all times.
Follow these two rules and you'll never have this problem again. It seems obvious but some of us have had to learn this the hard way.

About keys opening different cars, the number one reason for this is dirty locks. Over years dirt accumulates around the tumblers and they don't slide up and down freely like they're supposed to, and they stick up inside their slot. If you know how locks work you'll understand what this means. If you don't, check out the locks page at How Stuff Works, it quite interesting. Basically the more tumblers that are stuck up, the more likely that any other key will open the lock.
The fix is to spray a lubricating oil like WD-40 into the lock and work the key in and out repeatedly to clean them out. This has worked well for me in the past. Keys that opened my locks before cleaning them wouldn't after cleaning.

Haha, you said 'boot' when you really ment 'trunk'. Hahaha. No, don't flame me, I get it. I just think it's funny how people from other English-speaking parts of the world call it the 'boot.' Makes no sense to me.

I actually locked my keys in the car the other day last week in my high school parking lot, with the keys still in the ignition and the car still running, no less! I'm so used to locking the car up and walking away from it with the engine still running because of my auto timer, but I was talking with my friend as I was getting out of the car and I wasn't paying attention. D'oh. I had to go find the disciplinarian/wannabe cop guy to slim jim it. It took him like 10 minutes to do it too! I kept asking him to let me try, because I know excatly where the latcher thing is, but he wouldn't let me. So I had to watch him fool around trying to be Mr. Rescue and waste my gas, lol.

Wow, long post.

I had to take off my door panel on the right side and there is a 4 digit code on there. On top off that, my top was left down and it rained like a bitch last night.

Luckily my experience with English cars and their notorious electrical systems is fairly limited.

I do remember my Mum's old '74 Ford Escort had a "positive earth" electrical system though.
