keyhole issue

ever since i bought my FC, my passenger's side keyhole never worked. i'd put the key in there, but it wouldn't move at all, so i always opened up the car from the driver's side.

occasionally, the driver's side would react by having the same issue like the passenger's side, but i'd be able to still open the door. unfortunately this weekend, it finally gave out which meant i was locked out. the factory alarm system still works because i ended up opening up my FC through the hatch then unlocking it from the inside (then the alarm went off, but disarmed it by closing the hatch then opening it with the key again).

so with such an issue, what solutions are out there? i searched but couldn't really find much. and because of this, i feel like i can't even drive outside because i can't even lock my car and open it from the outside (unless i just lock one side and leave the other unlocked).

much help is appreciated.

Try lubricating the locks, pb blaster comes to mind.

I forgot which lubricant was used to free up my door locks.

ive had the same problem with a few locks and unfortunately i couldn't get them to work smoothly again. i tried wd-40 and pb blaster and it didn't really help. i wonder how much a new lock set would be?

You tried putting stuff in it and it didn't work? My key use to actually get stuck in the door to where I had to jiggle it to get it out. I used some garage door grease and now it works great. I don't think the key hole has worked that good since the car was new. It worked great for mine. YMMV.

I will try the garage door grease, but I actually took my handles completely out. The lock worked fine when I had the handle out, but when I put it back in, it was stuck.

This leads me to think that there is some adjusting to be made on those rods that are actuated by the lock.

Does anyone know how to/if you can adjust that at all?

I've been having problems with my driver side lock. Key ends up getting twisted at times but now I have to apply a little downward pressure while I turn to unlock the door. Mazdatrix has a section for replacement locks. Here is the link http://mazdatrix.com/in-locks.htm

Unfortunately Mazda's design for how the door opens is in all reality terrible. The only thing holding the handle to the rod to open the door is a piece of plastic smaller than the average persons pinkie nail.

Just a note, you might want to check and see if the object getting stuck is actually the outside cylinder and not the piece for locking the car on the inside. I'm currently having a issue with my passenger door where I can't use the key outside the car to unlock it, I have to be inside the car and holding the lock button upwards while trying to open the door.

StylEmon, I believe you might want to try greasing the assembly for opening the door from the inside and see how it works then.

i sprayed WD-40 in the keyhole... nothing.

i think i see a faint lil metal rod/pin kinda sticking out inside.

is that part of the key hole mechanism thing? from what i see, it's less than a centimeter...

This is Sooo simple!..Did you ever think that the passenger side Handle was replaced, and the Tumbler is Not for the Car's Key?.
you can replace a handle and leave the OLD tumbler on the Handle.
Solution, get the Handle, and the Rear Hatch Tumbler(easiest of the tumblers to take off the car).,take it to a Locksmith and have him Repin the Tumbler on the Door handle,so that it Does accept the key.

styx, that's not my situation at all. I know I have a matched set because when I took the lock out, the key worked.
