K&N vs Bonez
i took a look at my stock filter this weekend, and its all fucked up, creatures storing seeds and **** in it! i figure what the hell i might as well just uprade it now. im debating between either the bonez cone filter, or the k&n one. theyre both about the same price, 120. i dont need to buy any other extra parts, it just bolts on the the existing connection right? does anyone have any input? stock 86 na sport by the way, i dont remember if thats in my sig or not. thanks.

youll need an adapbter to fit the cone on to your AFM i think HKS makes them
if you had a s5 then you would not need that extra part but because the AFM on s4 cars is square youll need an adapter to fit the cone filter to the AFM

Wow thanks for that link Ice! I just ordered an Apexi intake now for the T2 conversion I will be starting this coming weekend after I drive down and pickup my front clip!
I've been using a K&N on my 86 N/A for a long while and liked it, but there's no fooling a simple test like that!

The important quote from that article: "It is questionable how accurate the original source of data is".
FYI, the proper test for an air filter is SAE J726.

I currently have the Bonez filter...it's pretty damn incredible if you ask me. But I like the sound of the Blitz filter though . Don't know about the filtration on it though .

I have a K&N on my 86 NA I like the looks of it, it was an easy install, all the adapters and parts were included and it came with a recharging kit. Made a huge diffrence powerwise as well.

putting it down daily
Have the Bonez kit, liked the brackets and excellent instructions, but of course I am not very mechanically inclined. The Bonez kit is a bit pricey, and those with fab experience can make their own adapter and brackets fairly easily for less $$$

I use a Bonez and have been very please with it. Looks alot like a K&N except the end is cone shaped toward the inside instead of just a flat end piece. I don't think RX7.com would sell a piece of crap though. I would hope they have higher standards than that.

Good Transition (Smoothly goes from round to square)

Bad Transition (Large lip = lots of drag)

No Transition (totally round, which also creates drag when the air hits the square AFM hole)

Most K&N dealers will have the vent filters, and you can also use brands other than K&N. Some of the generic auto parts stores carry K&N products, and you can also order them through the mail or internet. I forgot the inside diameter of the air pump hose, so you may want to measure yours to make sure you get a vent filter with the correct vent diameter.

Here are your K&N filter choices. Make sure you get one that fits under your hood and between the frame and other components. A lot of people accidentally get filters that are too long or too wide.

If all this sounds like a pain, then you can just pay the extra money for a kit. Some people don't like them, but kits do have their uses.
