OH just kinda curious

im just kinda curious as to how much you can get out of a s5 block. cuz the car im buying is coming with a rebuilt one. so ive been told. but i believe him cuz it looks pretty good. but the engine in the car has a 166k and i was just curious what they go for. i was gonna run this one till it wouldnt anymore and then sell it. it would just be the block. you know rotors, housings. and the side housings. lol. sorry if this wrong section but idk where to post

sometimes you can get more depending on certian things, like if someone is looking for what you have and is willing to pay what your asking price is. Go on ebay and take a look at some of the prices for which others are selling theirs. usually they tear it down and sell them separately, like rotors, housings, and some other stuff.

I didn't either. And then one night a friend and I yanked that bitch out. I marked all plugs, hoses, vacuum lines, etc... It wasn't the most choreographed thing, but we did it.

When I took out my S4 13B, it wasn't blown... I sold the shortblock to a guy for $70. He gave me $90 anyway. Cheap right? I wanted to sell it to someone that really needed it, and I wanted it gone! Plus, my JDM TII was on it's way. Choosing a price is up to you.

As for this other rebuilt engine... Did this guy build it himself? Has he rebuilt an engine before? Did he document the rebuild? Has he properly stored this rebuilt engine?? There are lots of questions I'd be asking. Anyone can degrease an engine, tape it off, and paint the shortblock. Just some things to question. See if he will let you turn it over by hand... Listen to the puffs/pulses.

he told me i can turn it over by hand and even look in the exhaust ports and see inside and see its good condition. as far as i know all i have is word. he claims it was in a car running at one point and then sold the car but kept block, i think thats what he did to still have it. it doesnt look like its been repainted like a day ago. it looks like it has use on it.

no clue who built it either. but hes got experience. hes got three counting the one im buying from him. so im not too worried. im hopin i can get enough life outta one in it and have the spare rebuilt professionally. or sell it and save uup for reman. basically im expecting the worst but hoping for the best. always works out fairly decent that way

so. i have another question. the one im lookin to buy, needs painted and a few little dings fixed. fixing the dings is no concern. but i would like save myself thousands of dollars by painting it myself. any tip or pointers anyone can give me. cuz i would love for it to be nice nice. but i feel i could make it nice myself. it cant be that hard right? im sure its no cake walk, but the only guy i would ever let paint any of my cars wants a little over 1k to paint the car. even with out doing the engine bay, only cause i want it to stay red. wanna do black and red. i like these cars in black and am too lazy to pull the engine to do bay.. haha. possibly when engine goes. all in all i would like to learn to paint it. and i would great detail into it. please guys. any advice and pointers would be well appreciated.

My girlfriends t2 was "blown" and still could exceed 100mph. 3 irons, 1 housing and all the seals was trash. I don't know if your plan of driving it until it doesn't run anymore and then selling it is going to work out so well.

No offense man... But we cannot always hand you the information. There are a few different paint pointer threads. You just have to search for them.

Paint jobs cost a few grand because of the labor involved. It takes about 100hrs of work to produce a nice paint job. It depends on how rusty/dented. Here are some links I found helpful when I learned about painting.

i know its pretty intensive but i got nothing but time you know. id much rather learn and feel accomplished then spend that kinda money. but thanks for the links. theres barely any body rust at all. so the rust isnt a concern. then the little dings and dent. childs play. ive just never actually painted a car to make it look nice...

It will probably be cheaper to have someone else do the paint job if you don't have the tools already.

so is it THOUSANDS or $1000? If someone told me they got a price to paint their car of $1000 I would actually be cautious, your saying the guy is good and your thinking this deal over twice?
