Just installed boost gauge and...

Well my buddy and me just finished installing it and went for a test drive. First I have a 1990 TII which I just bough not to long ago. Its got a downpipe but it leads to two cats one after another then to the exhaust. Im planing on taking 1 cat off soon. Well first gear I got about 5psi then second I got 6 and third it was 6 or 7. Then I went from 3krpm in third then flored it and it jump to 8psi some times it went to 9.5 almost 10psi. What im wondering is why didnt I hit fuel cut?

Thanks

Joe

i dont know much about TII's but i think fuel cut is higher then that like 14 or so but not sure. U better watch your boost there spiking up that high from 6 psi can be very bad.

im sure some enlightened ppl will respond soon.

ps look it up in search for fuel cut

stock boost on a 89-91 should be 8psi. your stock boost controler is probably bypassed. cut off should come around 8.5 but some people say they don't hit it till after 10. I guess it just depends if you are lucky enough to get an odd ecu.

if it had a downpipe when you bought it, it would also be posable that the last owner installed an FCD.

If they did install a FCD where would it be and what should I look for?

Thanks

look on the passenger side shock tower in the engine bay...there is a "Boost Sensor" box that is attached there...this is stock. if there is ANOTHER box plugged into that, then that is the Raciing Beat FCD. other fcd's can be plugged in the ECU i believe (under the passenger side carpet)

Just a little trivia. I got one of the ***** downpipes(2and 1/2 inch) and presilencers, for my 87turboii and bought a Autometer boost gauge. Oh. stock mufflers also. Anyway, the little dickens showed right close to 10 psi. Wheeeeee! Well after facing reality, I questioned why the fuel cut at 8.6 was not being hit(I was hitting fuel cut at 10) Started looking at the Autometer at idle and its reading compared with a regular vac gauge. I determined the Autometer was reading high by 2 to 2 and 1/2 psi. Also checked the voltage from the pressure sensor when I hit fuel cut and compared it with the graph from fc3steam. Well, bottom line....Autometer gauge off by a bunch. Fixed same this Sunday. Took the lighting receptacle out and adjusted to read correct pressure. High tech. I'm saying with your setup, its likely that you will not hit fuel cut unless the air temp is below 50 degrees or so(wild *** guess).

I've talked to some Kouki turbo owners who have never hit overboost fuel-cut...

Yeah its just the 5th gear syncro. Sometimes it just slides right in. Im use to it tho I use to own a 87 5.0 and almost every gear grinded, had to slame into gears with that car lol.
